Played very well. Starting to get used to playing in pain. However, playing less and concentrating more on each shot seems to be paying off. We played the green tees rating 66.6 and 118 slope. Greens were bumpy from being punched a week ago. Hit 7 fairways and 15 greens with 32 putts. Had 1 bogey due to a penalty shot. Drove it through the fairway into a hazard. Ball went 35 yards farther than it should. The case of nice strike, but bad result. Offset the bogey with 3 birdies. Other than that it was drive into position and find a way to get it on the green or close. Overall a good day.

So so round today. Woods worked well, irons were decent most of the day.  Our fairways are brutally dry and you have to hit ball first everytime or be prepared to lose 10-20 yards.

Have a couple more rounds planned for the weekend and going to play in the morning because this 106 feels like 115 is for the birds. Ha

Temps started out a balmy 97 and finished around 109 I think.

Played tees further back than usual and pretty happy on the day. Couple missed short putts and 1 just complete blow up hole.

The blow up hole was short par 4 that I found the fairway....about 80 yrds left and had to go over a tree...nothing crazy ....but just imploded with 3 straight terrible strikes.

Oh well, but overall came off the tee well. Approach play was solid, and chipping was good.

Been a few weeks after a foot injury and didn't play my best golf - certainly wasn't helped by the course not being in great condition but need to get that short game touch back - far too many shots thinned through the green. Back to the grind to get it back in shape!

Left too many shots out there but 29 points is probably as good as I deservedtempFileForShare_20240823-142158.jpg.94764f9bd629515f7ad093fd0f08503e.jpg

First game while overseas for work! I have a second set (my previous 'generation' of irons, and I think 2 or 3 previous generations for my driver) that I keep over here so that I don't need to lug an entire bag back and forth. Can I just say that I totally remember why I upgraded? 😂

Amverton Cove is a nice little layout about 1 hour outside of metro Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia. It's near the western coast, close to Port Klang. Running at about 5800m (6380y) from the tips, it makes up for the shortfall with LOTS OF WATER. 🌊 I think I counted 14 times times where I was standing on the tee box and my new friends said, "There's water on the left.... Oh and also the right." 🤦‍♂️

The thrice demoted driver was not performing (are you surprised?) and I struggled to keep my tee shots in the short grass. The irons weren't doing any better and I was either too short or too long. (Hence my oh-so-appropriate forum handle.) The only thing that kept my score from ballooning out of control were the wedges and the putter. Nothing like gaining momentum after sinking a 4-footer to save bogey! 💪

Anyway, all was redeemed when I chipped in on the 13th from 14-ft for the lone birdie in the group today! (It only takes 1 good shot to bring us back for more punishment!)

Must go explore other courses in the metro KL area now!

Due to travel and serving as an elections clerk for a Florida primary, I finally get back to playing golf!

image.png.c91a661379e82a03413dfdf76e3951ce.png

Overall, it was a pretty good round for not swinging a club for a while.  I missed only two fairways:  the first and the last holes.   One right and one left.  I hit maybe a handful of drives well (distance-wise), so I was scrambling a bit.

My greens in regulation was OK for me at 11% as I hit a few ill-advised irons to greens.  My up and downs at 6 was decent and included chipping in on 18.  I also had five up and down for bogeys that kept my score from ballooning!

The 25 putts was good day.  I must have missed charging my Shot Scope my last round, so I could capture this round.  I'm betting though, my distance of putts made had to be maybe 40 ft or so.  The greens were a bit "shaggy" as the course gets ready for their third aeration next week.  So, comparing to what they will be like next week, they were probably pretty good!

Going to post my last 3 round scorecards. Been a grind, but happy to have gotten out.

I really don't enjoy the first 3 holes on the course when I play. It is directly into sun and truthfully just sucks. The second hole in particular it is damn near impossible to see anything and it is a hole that needs driver. Anyway, GT clubs have been great so far, used them a lot and while not all sunshine and rainbows they are still stellar clubs.

A quad on the first hole was a killer in this round. Had a good line on a punch out but hit it TOO well and then made a mess of it from there. Otherwise played pretty solid, having 4 opportunities for birdie and leaving tap-ins after each one. Two stopped just short of the hole.

I feel I am so close to turning the corner. Just need to get those first tee woes out of my system.

The trouble is "biotop" its basically a water hazard but a natural area you can't go into. It is so easy to lose a ball and so easy to drop shots. Fairways aren't bad, but tighter than most american courses. Love the course and definitely feel I can shoot par before too long, just need to put it together.

Good score for me on a gorgeous day.  The greens here are so fast, undulating, and difficult, and the LAB DF 2.1 was not working for me with distance control, so I went back to the Scotty and it made a big difference today.  Happy with the results.

It was more about iron play today instead of low scores.. Didn't pull my 3 wood out but twice today and left the hybrid and 5 wood at home

Thanks to some dry packed dirt and a downhill fairway, I hit my longest drive of the year. Unfortunately, it also meant it rolled into some trees, so turned into a bogey. A little all over the place off the tee but a strong day with the irons

The heat is on in Baja. The weather is warming up into the 80’s. The temps are up and so is my score. Dang, 96 for the day. I was in so much trouble off the tee on the front 9. In the cactus, hitting 3. You know the drill. The back 9 was significantly better. With a 44, that saved the day. Whoop Whoop!

Oh man! Okay, so first things first: I played a LOT of really good golf yesterday. I drove the ball about as well as I ever had for a full 18 - only two really errant drives, but more on that later. Hit an absolute BOMB that rolled out to 311, and nearly drove the green, which was a HUGE surprise. Sadly didn't convert that to birdie.

Played the front at +8 - I know, I know, that's not "really good golf," but that includes a triple on a par-5, where my second (going for the green) went into a trap that was WET sand, and instead of changing clubs, I tried a hero shot 40-yard bunker shot that went 6 feet, still in bunker. I then hit THAT right of the green where I hxecute a nearly-impossible flop shot off of hardpan, only to hit it to the back fringe. Walked away with a triple, which...I totally deserved.

Other than that, it was one shot a hole that was JUST off, but burned two edges on par-saving putts, so it felt closer to "good" than the score indicated.

Two natural birdies, both on the back, had me to -2 through 7 on the back. I was in what felt like complete control. Driver was awesome (I switched out my grip to the slightly heavier one I originally had, which lowered my swingweight to C4, and for whatever reason, I LOVE how this feels), mostly point and shoot.

Burned the edge of AT LEAST four putts, but that's golf.

Got to 18 knowing a par got me in under par for the back 9, and absolutely melted down, lol.

Drive off to the right, with a TERRIBLE option.  Either punch out directly left back to the fairway, ORRRRR...punch it low between two trees and skip it through a bunker onto the green. Guess which one I tried.

Lol. Hit the tree on the left, where it bounced backwards about 30 yards. Tried to get my 48° up over the (HUGE) tree in front of me, but it clipped the branches and fell down next to the cart path on more hardpan. 75 yards to the pin, I hit it 85, back fringe. Putt nearly hit the stick, but ran by 12 feet. Putt back up missed by 1/2" (not included in my "burned edge" stat from earlier).

Tripled 18, to come home with an 82.

So...a lot of good golf, and two nightmare holes that mostly just left me laughing.

My buddy, @Billy The Kid Rogers, gracefully missed his birdie putt on 18 to have us tied for the round.

A GREAT day, all told. But I want those two holes back 😉
