When is your last day for the season?

First I know many of you don't have an off season. Good for you! I also know saying we don't need to hear it is asking too much. So if you get to play year round please be kind and try not to rub it in too much

I got this email today...

IMG_1479259929.692907.jpg

Sad to say that tomorrow 11/16 is my last round for the year. I know some area courses will be open longer, but I highly doubt I will be able to visit any.

So when does your course close and when is your last round for the season?

I'm just north of Kansas City Missouri, and our courses stay open all year (unless there is snow on the ground). We are already having morning frost delays, but a lot of guys (myself included) will play in any weather.

I don't think any of the courses here close for the season but I highly doubt I'll get out and play in the cold at all. This offseason for me is going to be about more improvement now that I have a pretty good schedule

In the same boat as hckeymeyer...local course is closing Thursday.  Have a slow week so I was able to get out today, hopefully tomorrow and again on Thursday, and then that'll be that.  Hoping for a warm weather trip or two over the winter...

Only a few courses in the northwest close for the winter, but it can be a very wet experience on the west side of the mountains.  Here on the east side, the courses stay open all year.  Ball doesn't fly very far, but it bounces and rolls a long way.  I visited my parents on the west side one year for Christmas and the local golf course was closed, but there was a sign on the door that said anyone could play for free, just had to walk.

When it gets below 50* for the daily high... I slipped two discs a couple years back trying to play in the cold weather. Pretty much my rheumatologist told me no more golf when it's in the 40's. So, in Louisiana? That'll be January.

Sadly unable to play here in Canada in the winter..courses have been closed for almost a month already. It's been know to reach -40 Fahrenheit where I live. Ya -40f....imagine that. We ice fish in the winter and play our golf indoors on a simulator.

Interesting. I didn't realize that y'all had an end to GHIN posting.  Does that effect rounds played out of area? so say you did a vacation in Florida, could you post those rounds and have them count, or is it just disabled for the offseason, and new rounds don't post until the spring ?

Unfortunately, we are just gearing up for the "Season" with cooler temps anticipated.  I enjoy the cooler rounds so I can wear vests, sweaters and jackets.  My game is different in the cooler months, so i usually switch to a 2 piece ball(Wilson Staff Duo or Snell Get Sum).

If we meaning those of us "out of season" play a round somewhere that is in season, we are to post it for handicap.  So example Maryland being out of season, if I play a round of golf in Florida while at the PGA Show in January, then I need to keep track of it and post it in the spring when the computers are open again.

Likewise, I am a Maryland resident.   If "season" is defined as that period when other than rain, weather is not a concern, then the end of that "season" is getting close.   If it is defined as the end of any opportunity to play, then the season continues during the winter months.   In Maryland, during the winter, there are multiple days when temperature allows one to play if dressed appropriately.   During those days, its the wind that is my determinate if I wish to play.  I can dress for temperature, but at my age, the wind will go right through me.   But there is one advantage to being my age.  I have a couple of retired golf buds that snowbird during the winter months in Fort Meyers, Florida and Palms Spring, California.   So I know I will at least get to play two weeks during the winter.

Our course remains open during the winter... my limit is around 5C...lower than that and I rather stay home watching TV.

Last year I stopped around October. This year, by the looks of the weather, I can still throw a couple of rounds in between.

To all you guys that still have some time left I hope you're able to get in another round or two before it's over. It's got to be a bummer.

I'll play year round except an occasional cold or snow day in the winter. This weekend for instance it's supposed to be 60 Friday and 57 Saturday. I'll play both days. Love playing golf in cool weather.

If you play in Florida or anywhere where scores are still accepted into GHIN, you should be able to post them on the computer at that course; just enter your GHIN # and the score will be uploaded to your home golf association.

Wonder if any of you guys listen to PGA network on satellite radio, a few days ago the Katrek & Maginnes on tap show talk about exactly this and the reason why there are active and inactive seasons in certain states. They claimed the USGA declares inactive season (November-April) states such as NJ as easier because the ground is harder and ball rolls out more in fairways, no leaves on trees so more likely for balls to pass through as well as some other reasons that did not make much sense to me and that I forgot. They also stated the importance of if you do play a round in an inactive state that you are not permitted to then post your scores at the beginning of the season, they also stated that if for example myself who lives in NJ which is now inactive for posting takes a trip to an active state for example such as Florida I am then permitted to post that score.

Honestly I have always kept my scores throughout the winter and posted at the beginning of the season, to me some winters are tougher than others, playing with extra layers/ winter gloves/ hats and dealing with usually more wind always seems harder to me and my scores usually reflect that. But from now on I will only be posting my scores from active states during my inactive season.

Sounds like BS Peter .The game needs more players and is in trouble. This just screams to me they want less players

I honestly agree, what about the rounds I play in the rain or after a few days of rain when the fairways don't roll out but the greens are extremely receptive? Seems contradictory as well as confusing to newcomers.
