What Have You Bought Lately? (CHA - Club Ho's Anonymous)

So now I’m nervous.  As I posted in “Random Thread” last week, my wife gave me a grudging “whatever” by text when I was working on approval to buy the Stack System.  Not a “no” but not a “yes” either, so I was left to wonder how much pain I was willing to go through if I pressed ahead with the order.

Guess I’ll find out.  Friday night we hosted a poker party that included a couple golf buddies.  A couple drinks in and after some encouragement from the buddies, I placed the order, unbeknownst to the wifey.  Now the package is on it’s way, and even if I get to the box before she does she’s going to see it on the credit card statement.  Could be interesting.

If you’re reaction to this post is that I need to grow a pair, back off.  My marriage is going to last forever and I’ll never stray because I’m equal parts in love with her, and absolutely terrified of her….

I can relate to this.  Maybe 60% terrified!

Bought some very gently used Cleveland CBX irons for my son, they came in last week. I got a good deal for them and they look like they maybe saw one season on the course, if that. I had told my son I was looking around for some clubs and gave him some options in my price range, but didn't tell him they had come in. Needless to say he was pretty excited to come home from rehearsal last week to see them waiting for him!

I stopped by DSG on the way home from work and picked up 2 dozen MaxFli Tour balls. I told my wife after getting home that I was tempted to get the 48 pack, she asked why I didn't. She also said the new golf balls would make an acceptable sacrifice to the golf gods.

I haven't had a 3 wood in my bag for several years.  I thought I would give one a try since my swing has improved since then.   I wanted an adjustable loft capability knowing that I would be better off with 16 or 17 with my next club being a 3 hybrid at 20 degrees.    I ended up picking up a used Epic Flash 3 wood couple of days ago.  I can't wait to hit it!

Yet another golf purchase. Still holding strong on not buying any clubs though. Got a travel bag on the way so I can take my clubs next week for work instead of having to rent some.

I played with a guy yesterday who was putting lights out with a mallet, and I feel like I haven’t done anything lately but burn edges with my blade. He told me he’d recently ditched his Scotty Newport and couldn’t be happier. It got me thinking, and I couldn’t remember the last time I used a mallet.

One thing led to another and I’m on PXG’s site this morning. I love the fact they not only offer every head they sell to lefties, but they also make them to fit either a straight, slight arc or strong arc stroke. I went with the heel shafted Bat Attack because I have a strong arc.

i was also happy to see at checkout they lowered their shipping prices today. Instead of $30 for one club it’s now $17, and instead of $60 for two it’s $18. Somehow I resisted the urge to buy a Closer also, despite almost convincing myself I’d be saving $43 if I did.

I never ask when I buy something (unless it's a big purchase and not golf related).  She would always say Yes.  However, when a long, narrow box arrives, she does roll her eyes  ... like yesterday.

It showed up last night.

 I got to the package, but the UPS driver rang the doorbell and it’s on our Nest doorbell.  And, I paid via our joint credit card.  So, I’m excited to use this product, but now I’m wondering if she’s playing some kind of vicious mind game making wonder if she’s wise to this, doesn’t care, or is saving this one for when she’s mad about something else…. I’m freaking out man!

Been looking for a 7 wood being that my UDI and Hybrid just haven't been giving much love lately. Found this gem in pretty minty fresh condition. 

Took it to the Launch monitors. Set green at 230. Was landing shots like marshmallows from heaven on the green. Hopefully this translates the same on the course.

I tried the new Cobras, Mizuno ST220-G, Rogue Triple Diamond, and Stealth Plus against my Honma TR20 460, and Callaway Epic Max LS. Order of finish:

Stealth Plus, Honma, Max LS, Cobra LTDX LS, Mizuno/Triple Diamond tie. 
 

Bought the Stealth Plus with Graphite Design Tour AD XC 7X, the actual one I hit- walked-out with it, and traded the Max LS toward it. Knocked down my launch from 15*-16* (Honma gamer), to 11*-12*. Spin dropped from 2500-2700 to 2000-2100, ball speed went from 165-166 to 169-170, high of 168 with Honma, high of 174 with Stealth, dispersion went from 55 yards wide down to 45, and front-to-back dispersion tightened by 11 yards. Ball speeds and dispersion on mishits were significantly better with Stealth Plus vs my Honma. My swing speed was down noticeably from last year and the year before… Ugh, I gotta get off the couch!!!

Hopefully this isn't a NSFMGS post, but finally tracked down this American Flatsticks/Patrick Gibbons headcover that I've been searching for for a couple years (picked up the blade last year, but now that I'm back to a mallet, this one was a bit elusive - only 20 made). Apparently I am a believer. My wife got me a LAB Golf putter for Christmas and I love it. I like the Mezz 1 a bit more for the shape so I just ordered one with the Accra shaft.

The three putters were in the putter tests this year. Generally impressed, I personally liked the blade model best.  Definitely a putter you need to be fit for or it just doesn’t feel right.

I'm kind of surprised to read you were still gaming the TR20.  Thought the Max LS knocked that out of the bag?  It's an extremely forgiving driver, for sure.
