Introduction - August 24th, 2023

I am extremely excited about participating in the testing of the Rapsodo MLM2 Pro. I have always wanted a way to practice more at home, and with a launcher that can also work as a simulator, this should make for a great start. I cannot thank the folks at Rapsodo and MyGolfSpy enough for this opportunity. I truly appreciate it because I enjoy reading about the experiences of other forum members who have had the chance to provide invaluable day-to-day feedback.

For those who may not know me yet, here's a bit of background. I was born and raised in Brazil a little over 40 years ago. Growing up, I played soccer, handball, futsal, and enjoyed the outdoors, swimming in holes and exploring trails around Unai MG, Brazil. I never held a golf club until I was in my early 30s, and I started golfing in 2010. I'm still a high handicapper. I now live in southeast Michigan where the golf season can be very limited due to the weather. Therefore, if I can extend that season with a backyard simulator and practice setup, it would be a dream come true.

For this testing, my plan is to spend some time working on the range with the Rapsodo and in the backyard with the net. I also want to test it indoors to see the difference between various environments and types of balls being used. I'm particularly curious about how responsive the system can be with range balls.

First Impressions (9 out of 10)

I must begin by acknowledging that this is my first extended experience with a mobile launch monitor/simulator, and I couldn't be more thrilled with the journey so far. The device packs quite a punch, neatly contained in a compact and highly portable package, yet it boasts an impressive array of power and information. My range sessions have been transformed into a valuable source of feedback.

The packaging itself exudes a premium feel, offering an easy setup process through the Rapsodo app. One minor drawback was the manual entry required for each club's details, such as length and loft. It would be convenient to have a quick-start setting to select the basic club type and get started promptly.

 

Setting up the device on the range was a breeze. Turning it on, connecting it to my phone, configuring the location, and it was good to go. These steps might sound lengthy in text, but in reality, it was a matter of mere minutes before I was teeing off.

The presence of dual cameras on the device, providing an impact view and a down-the-line view, is a fantastic addition. It eliminates the need to walk back to the device and allows for real-time observation on my phone's screen. Moreover, the system offers an option to use the device as a third camera, granting a face-on view of my swing—a feature immensely beneficial for practice and coaching.

The wealth of data provided by this device is truly astonishing and has me brimming with excitement. The Rapsodo can track various aspects of each shot, including club speed, carry distance, total distance, spin rate, and much more. The data can be displayed in real-time and revisited later through the 10,000 videos that can be stored on my account. This wide array of data caters to all levels of players and has the potential to significantly enhance one's game.

The session insights, including accuracy, distance, and consistency by club, coupled with video feedback, offer a comprehensive understanding of every swing. The tracer lines are a notable addition, particularly useful for practicing specific shot types, although there were instances when the device misjudged the shot type.

Transitioning to on-course use was seamless and did not hinder my pace of play. It's important to note that I refrained from using it in situations where it might disrupt the flow of play for others.

Aesthetics (9 out of 10)

This device is an absolute stunner in terms of aesthetics. Its sleek design is captivating and had me hooked from the moment I laid eyes on it. The visual appeal is spot-on, but there's a minor hiccup with the device's legs, which appear somewhat flimsy. For someone like me, prone to unintentional mishandling, sturdier legs would provide added peace of mind.

The device's size is perfect—compact enough to carry with ease, making it a convenient companion for trips to the range or the course. The solid carrying case instills confidence in its protection during transportation, reassuring even the clumsiest of users.

Customization options may be limited, but they are unnecessary for a device purpose-built for training. Its focus is on functionality, and it excels in that department.

As for durability, I believe this device is here to stay, as long as I avoid unfortunate incidents involving those somewhat delicate legs. I can easily envision it becoming a go-to tool for range sessions in upcoming seasons, provided continued support from Rapsodo. It's a game-changer I've long awaited.

 

The Numbers (20 out of 20)

To maintain transparency, it's worth noting that I observed some variations in data when using different types of golf balls, including range balls, RPT balls, and regular golf balls with the RPT pattern. The RPT balls provided more consistent feedback, even on mishits, whereas range balls occasionally resulted in slightly different yardage and shot shapes following a mishit.

 

The unit's precision is commendable, as I previously mentioned. My on-course experience reaffirmed this, with the unit delivering accurate information regarding shot direction and distance, facilitating easy ball retrieval. The measured distances closely matched my historical data, although rare outlier distances appeared at the range, possibly attributable to setup or human error.

The wealth of data available for analyzing range sessions is impressive, serving as a valuable tool for golfers at various skill levels. Personally, I find metrics like clubhead speed, total carry, and launch angle most crucial, as they directly contribute to my tee-off performance. While the shot type metric is less utilized, I focus on maintaining straight shots for now.

This unit's ease of setup is a standout feature, typically requiring less than a minute to get up and running. The robust USB-C cable eliminates the need for a specialized charging brick, with a standard iPhone charger sufficing. After an initial few hours of charging, subsequent charges take only a couple of hours.

The unit's battery life is impressive, as I still had around 70% remaining after an hour and a half on the range. The setup process was trouble-free, obviating the need for online assistance or customer service contact. However, I encountered a minor hiccup with the e6 course code, but Rapsodo's swift response and resolution, even on a weekend, earned their customer support a perfect 10/10.

Out of the 13 available metrics, each has its importance for my game. Club-head speed, total carry, and launch angle are my primary focus areas for improving my performance. This device provides valuable session insights, making it a prized addition to any golfer's toolkit.

On-Course (20 out of 20)

While designed primarily for range usage, I successfully employed it on the course without hindering my pace of play. Occasional timeouts between shots occurred, necessitating re-connection, but as a solo player, I did not impact the pace of play for others.

The feedback received on the course was highly valuable, resembling the combine feature and offering insights into my game's performance.

The Good, the Bad, the In-between (18 out of 20)

After extensive testing at the range and on the course, I wholeheartedly believe that this system is a valuable addition to my golf equipment and training aids. While I haven't yet had the opportunity to compare it to other launch simulators, my initial impressions are overwhelmingly positive. I'm enthusiastic about exploring the full potential of the MLM2Pro and plan to conduct an indoor comparison in the future.

Noteworthy Aspects:

·         Data Accuracy: The system delivers reasonably accurate data, particularly with specialized golf balls and the indicated template. Many YouTubers have also compared MLM2Pro to other units, highlighting its impressive accuracy.

·         Diverse Metrics: The system offers a comprehensive set of 13 different metrics, including carry distance, total distance, club speed, and spin rate, catering to a wide range of players.

·         Session Insights: The ability to provide insights into accuracy, distance, and consistency by club is a valuable asset for golfers looking to enhance their performance.

·         Trackman-Style Analysis: The system's shot spread and flight graphs resemble sophisticated Trackman technology, adding a professional touch to practice sessions.

·         Cloud-Based Review: Swing and slow-motion impact video reviews accessible at any time from the cloud allow for convenient self-assessment.

·         User-Friendly Features: Features like the tracer line, long-lasting battery life, and customizable putting distances enhance the overall experience.

·         Customization and Compatibility: The system offers options for tailoring your experience by selecting clubs for simulation and connecting to third-party software, enhancing its versatility.

Areas for Improvement:

·         Occasional Distance Miscalculation: Some infrequent instances of distance miscalculation may be attributed to human error.

·         Mounting and Setup: Setting up the system can be cumbersome, requiring a tripod for your phone or tablet. The built-in phone holder might not meet the standards of some users.

·         Data Limitation: The restriction of viewing only four data points at a time on the review screen may limit the depth of analysis, especially on smaller phone screens.

·         Simulated Experience: Some users may find the simulated courses lack depth, with no apparent angulation or elevation differences. This could be a limitation of the system's price point.

·         Data Delay: At times, there may be a slight delay in the appearance of post-shot data during practice or simulation rounds.

Play it or Trade it? (20 out of 20)

I unequivocally intend to keep this unit in play for the foreseeable future. Given the seasonal constraints of golf in Michigan, I anticipate using it to jump-start my game during the early spring practice sessions, making the most of the limited outdoor golfing opportunities.

This golf simulation system is more than a mere gadget; it is a powerful practice tool that adds an element of fun and challenge to your practice sessions. While it exhibits minor shortcomings, these could be addressed in future updates and with increased user familiarity. With some refinements and improvements, it has the potential to be an invaluable asset for golf enthusiasts seeking to elevate their game. This device is a game-changer that combines functionality and enjoyment seamlessly.

Introduction - August 22nd, 2023

Hello everyone!

First of all, I want to say thank you to MyGolfSpy and the entire community for making opportunities like these possible! I am beyond grateful to be part of this community and can't wait to be part of this testing opportunity!

A little bit about myself... I am 24 years old and live in Iowa City, Iowa. I have been playing golf consistently since my Junior year in high school, but I have taken it more seriously over the past few years. In high school, I didn't really care about golf, I just played it because my friends were on the golf team. Back then, I typically shot in the high 80s or low 90s. When I got into college, I started focusing more on the game and put a lot of work toward improving. I worked my way down to an 8 handicap, then a 5, and now I am between a 2-3 handicap. I now take golf seriously and have devoted much of my free time to the game. Outside of golf, I am a special education teacher working toward my Master of Educational Administration degree. I also coach football, basketball, and golf, which I absolutely love. I also love spending time with my wife and our three pets!

I am really looking forward to this opportunity as I have the original Rapsodo MLM. I am excited to see how the two products compare and the overall performance of this launch monitor. I plan on testing the Rapsodo MLM2Pro outdoors and indoors, comparing the data from both settings, reviewing the simulation, and hopefully, comparing these numbers to a premium launch monitor such as Skytrak or GC Quad. Stay tuned!

First Impressions (10/10)

This monitor is sweet—no beating around that bush. From the delivery, packaging, and performance, I have been very impressed so far. 

When this showed up at my house, it came in a medium-sized package. When opening the package, the box for the launch monitor took up about 1/2 of the package. When I took the launch monitor out of the package, the launch monitor came in a very sleek box and was packaged well. 

  

After opening the box for the launch monitor, the contents inside were very well packaged and there were no signs of damage. Inside the box, there was the launch monitor inside a travel case, a charger, and a sleeve of balls for the monitor. 

 

The launch monitor fits very well inside the travel case and is small enough to put in the side of my golf bag. I carry this with me every time I go golfing to have while I warm up on the range, to hit into the net, or to hit the simulation. When I open it up, all I have to do is take the base of the launch monitor and twist it into the monitor. 

 

According to Rapsodo, this monitor is the best cutting-edge technology for a mobile launch monitor. From everything I've seen, this thing is legit and I can't wait to test it further. 

Aesthetics (9/10)

Right out of the box, this launch monitor catches your eye. Right away, you can see the modern looks and sleek design. Its simple design is effective, yet simple in nature. The launch monitor itself seems to be well-made and the cameras have strong stability. The legs are a little sketchy in nature, as they are made out of plastic, however, they have a good overall design and stability. The case that it comes in is durable and comes with a loop on the top to easily clip it to a golf bag. The "R" for Rapsodo is stitched into the case and looks really nice. 

 

The launch monitor and the legs both sit at 7 inches tall and when put together, sit at 14 inches. I think the size is perfect, as it can easily fit in my golf bag and be taken anywhere with no hassle. 

 

The Numbers (17/20)

When looking at the yardages, this device is very accurate with irons and wedges. For my wedges, I was able to dial my numbers and get carry and total distances. When using my irons, I was able to measure my distances, as well as my shot shape, distance offline, club speed, etc. The thing that I enjoyed most while using the launch monitor was the ability to change the metrics that were measured. When using the launch monitor, I typically chose to focus on carry distance, ape height, and total distance. To change the metrics, all you have to do is click a button in the app and it pops up a menu that looks like this:

When looking at my carry distances, all of my iron and wedge distances look good. However, when looking at distances for my 3 hybrid and driver, the launch monitor struggles to calculate those distances while indoors. With a premium golf ball, I typically swing my driver between 118 - 120 mph and carry it between 285 - 300 yards. Outdoors with the simulator with a range ball, I was getting around 275 carry distance which I am happy with for a range ball. However, indoors, it read that I was carrying my driver around 230 yards. My 3 hybrid was the same story. I typically carry it around 250 and indoors, I was getting readings anywhere between 206 - 228 yards. I tried a couple of different times, and all of the times, it was the same story. Now, saying all of that, I am not too worried about these numbers and would prefer to see what the shot shape is and where the ball is going. However, if you are looking for really accurate numbers with a high swing speed, especially indoors, this may be something to note. 

Some other numbers to interest you:

- Charging Time: I charged it the first time I took it out of the box for about 12 hours and have yet to charge it again. Now, I should probably charge it soon, but it has been used over 15 times and it has held its charge really well. 

- Ease of Use: When setting it up, you download the Rapsodo MLM2Pro app on your mobile device and create an account. When you are in the app, you connect to the launch monitor via Bluetooth, and away you go. In the package, there are directions that are simple to follow and the entire setup process took around 15 minutes. Now, it is important to note that you need to update the firmware, which took the longest, but after that, the app and device are ready to go. 

- Metrics of Measure: When using the Rapsodo MLM2Pro, you have access to a number of metrics. These metrics include: carry distance, total distance, side carry, clubhead speed, ball speed, smash factor, launch direction, launch angle, descent angle, apex height, shot shape, and spin if you have the balls with black markings. 

On Course (16/20)

Honestly, there are not a lot of uses for this on the actual golf course unless you have access to a golf course with very little traffic. when using this on the course, it takes time setting it up every time that you go to hit a shot, making sure that the target line and your physical alignment are paired, and ensuring that the connection between the device and your phone all make for a finicky experience. This definitely would not be used in a typical round of golf for me, however, I do think it is an important part of warming up and preparing myself to play golf.

When thinking about using this device on the course, the place that I used it most was on the range before the round. Using it to quickly get carry distances for the day, a natural shot shape, and my club gappings, I could prepare myself for how I was hitting the ball, and the distances that corresponded with that. Using this before the round to dial in some of those numbers could be really beneficial and could help shave a couple of strokes off of the score while on the course. 

The Good and Bad (18/20)

Good:

There are two main parts of the launch monitor that I thought were the biggest successes. The first one was impact vision. Impact vision allows you to see the impact between the golf club and the golf ball. I found this to be really beneficial when focusing on club face control and swing path. during impact vision mode, you get a slow-mo video of the impact position. This helped out a lot when I was struggling with an open club face, closed club face, or coming over the top. By having this feature, it can give a lot of insight as to what you should be working on during practice. an example of impact vision is shown in the picture below:

The second huge success is the simulation mode. When going into the simulation mode, you can choose between going to the range and going to courses. I found both to be beneficial, however, I found the range to be really helpful, especially when hitting indoors. As mentioned above, I live in Iowa, so only being able to play for half of the year limits my ability to see the golf ball fly. By having simulation experiences, it allows me to see my shot shape, and what I need to work on during my practice sessions. Without this feature, I would have no idea where any of my shots are going when hitting into a net. Some pictures of the range and simulation software are included below. 

 

Bad:

There is not much bad to say about this product. The only two things that I can think of are accessibility to indoor hitting spaces and third-party software that can be used. When talking about accessibility, I am lucky because I have a space that has a hitting mat and a net where I can use the launch monitor indoors. If you do not have access to this, you could be limited to only using this outdoors. Now, I'm not saying that this device is not beneficial to use outdoors, however, being able to use it indoors provides a more consistent environment with more accurate numbers. 

The third-party apps that can be used with this device also require a subscription. You can use and play on courses that come with the launch monitor, however, there are two third-party apps that you can use to provide a different experience. The apps are Awesome Golf and E6. When using the free trial, I really enjoyed using these apps. However, I don’t want to spend a monthly or yearly fee for the apps on top of the yearly subscription that comes with the launch monitor. Something to definitely think about if your main focus is using it for simulation purposes. 

Play it or Trade it? (20/20)

When thinking about purchasing launch monitors, this one would definitely be near the top of my list. Now, like most people, I would love to have a GC Quad or a Trackman. However, I am not going to spend $15,000 to $20,000 on a lunch monitor. Having a launch monitor that provides accurate distances and a lot of the same features for a fraction of the cost is an absolute no-brainer in my opinion. For all of the features that you get with the MLM2Pro, there is no doubt that I am playing with this until it no longer works (or until I win the lottery). 

When thinking about why I plan on playing with this launch monitor, it simply comes down to improving my golf game. Like most of us avid golfers out there, I'm constantly looking for ways to improve. In today's world, we have access to so much technology that can help us improve our golf game. However, as mentioned above, a lot of that technology is really expensive. Having this device has helped me dial in the distances for my wedges and my irons, improved my gapping between all of my clubs, and provided me with a lot of data that is needed to take my game to the next level at a fraction of the cost as a handful of competitors.

Conclusion

When looking at launch monitors on the market today, I think this one is in the top 3 when comparing all of the components and features that weigh into a launch monitor. When thinking about purchasing a launch monitor, I consider price, accuracy, and accessibility. First off, with the price, this device is worth every penny. When comparing some of the other launch monitors that I would consider getting, their prices are between $2,000 - $5,000. For $700, this is an absolute steal. When looking at the accuracy of the launch monitor, as mentioned above, the accuracy with wedges and irons is almost spot on, maybe a yard or two here and there. With high swing speeds indoors, it can struggle to produce accurate numbers with woods and drivers, but that is easy to look past. The last thing is accessibility. I can take this device with me anywhere I go and have it set up and ready for use in under two minutes. That is not something that you can say with a lot of the launch monitors on the market today. This easily fits in my golf bag and I take it with me every time I go golfing. All I need is my phone, the launch monitor, and my clubs to start getting the data I want and need. 

On a real note, if you want to improve your golf game, you need to have access to data. This device will provide the data you need (and more) for a fraction of the cost of its competitors. If you are considering a launch monitor, definitely consider the Rapsodo MLM2Pro as you won’t find another one like it for the price.

Rapsodo MLM2PRO Member Testing Review - BOS edition

We’re back for another BOS edition review.  This time I was fortunate to be able to put the new MLM2PRO from Rapsodo through its paces both indoors and out and really enjoy the improvements that have been made from the original MLM!

For those of you who don’t know me; Hi!  I’m Bryan, or as I’m better known around these parts GolfSpy BOS.  I’m a 36 year old single digit handicap with hopes and dreams of getting to scratch and about 1/18th the time required to put in the practice to do so.  When I’m not golfing or dreaming of golfing I can most likely be found on some youth sports field or carting one of my three wonderful children around to some activity. 

 

Thankfully, my oldest has already taken to the sport and my other two have shown interest as well!  So, It seems I will have some built in golf-buddies for life.  But enough about me, onto the review!

First, thank you to Rapsodo for including a unit for me to use on this review.  It was exciting to see the significant improvements made from the OG MLM to the MLM2PRO unit!  From the start the whole experience is more premium in every way.  More on that below! 

First Impressions - 10/10

Out of the box the MLM2PRO unit feels solid and premium.  The unit has a smooth soft feeling finish and has a nice heft to it.  It doesn’t feel like it’s going to get pushed around in the wind and the stand smartly has holders built in for a phone or iPad to use a display, even though that’s not needed to use the unit.  Compared to the original MLM this just feels like everything has been stepped up a notch.  Even the case is well done with molded spaces to firmly hold the base and main unit in place securely.  

   

Aesthetics - 10/10

I think the MLM2PRO unit looks great.  Either stand alone, or using a phone or tablet on the base it looks cool on the range and more like the tool it was designed to be than the original MLM ever did.

On the app side I also like some of the improvements they have made to the UI and the overall experience while using the app from graphics to shot-tracers has improved since the original MLM came out.  I particularly like having the iPad setup with the MLM2PRO.  I think that is how it looks the most professional and I can see all the data I need from a little further away.  Check out Jackson working on getting his long drive going and loving the new practice set up!

Side note:  He spent a lot of time working on smashing balls and by the end of the year he drove a few greens setting up around 150 yards away!  I give some of the credit to good genetics of course, but outside of that having feedback from the MLM2PRO was huge at both building his confidence and to unleash his speed!
The Numbers - 17/20

I’ve spent most of my review time with the MLM2PRO unit in net mode either in my garage or in the back yard.  Overall, I think the numbers have been very consistent and accurate compared to other top-grade units.  I found this particularly true when using the Callaway RPT balls to capture spin metrics. 

If I were doing any serious swing work or utilizing the Rapsodo to test shafts or new equipment I would highly recommend using those as capturing the spin made a big difference in shot shape that I was seeing.  Here's a few screen grabs of my testing with the Edison PW versus mine.

 

When I wasn’t using the Callaway RPT balls my results were still good, but it was obvious that spin is a big deal for this launch monitor.  Hitting into a net with regular balls (Yellow TP5 and Chrome Soft’s that I won at a scramble) I noticed that ball speed, launch, and carry were all still what I would expect to see but shot shape becomes basically straight.  Not much I would say to blame the Rapsodo there, hitting into a new it only has 5-6 feet of flight to make all its calculations.  And to be honest, when I’m inside, over the winter, just trying to maintain my swing and have some fun?  It’s more than acceptable, especially on full swings.  For me things do break down a little once you get inside of 50 yards or so.  However, this is not unique to the Rapsodo and is on par with other simulators I’ve used including full enterprise class solutions from Full Swing, Foresight, and others. 

Outside I used the MLM2PRO recently at the range and had a great experience with it.  Not needing to use your phone as a source for the camera really freed up my setup.  The range I was at did have a bit of a slope behind the hitting area, so I used a ball bucket to prop it up higher and closer to level with the mats.  I was thrilled that the MLM2PRO captured every shot… even the half swings I took at balls that were split while I was getting loose.  Yes… the balls were split.  These range balls were mostly tired at best, with only a handful having any sort of glossiness left on their cover.  Based on the condition of the balls I was happy with the reported figured and numbers.  They closely aligned with that I was seeing directionally and the radar handled some pull-draw shots better than the original MLM did for me. 

On The Range/In the Garage - 35/40

So we know the numbers are solid, how is the actual user experience on the range and in the garage?  Overall, excellent.  And significantly improved from the OG MLM. 

From the start setting up the unit is easy as the base connects with a twist and the built in tripod is simple and sturdy.  The app has worked quickly for me to connect to the device and within a few taps on the screen I have been good to go.  I did face a few connection issues early in the review process, but the latest firmware revisions have resolved those issues for me.  Once the MLM2PRO is set up and ready to go the different modes really highlight the advancements from the original unit to the MLM2PRO for me.

  

Hitting outside on the range I had no missed shots or bad reads in situations that seemed to always trip up the original MLM.  All of the shot tracers that I have reviewed started at the ball where they belong and took a path fitting the flight I observed.  I still do enjoy having that quick review of each swing as it helps me remember to focus on practicing versus bashing balls.  Also the feedback you get from having a radar is invaluable.  I’ve also used it to keep an eye on swing speed where I hit some balls without caring about the actual shot but wanted to see an increase in swing speed.  The unit is very versatile in the regard since it combines camera features for teaching/learning as well as club and ball data.

One of the new features that I am growing fond of is the Performance Combine.  When you do a combine session you hit 3 clubs.  2 clubs to approach distances and 1 as a tee shot.  You get some warmup shots and then, games on!  The app lets you know which shot you are trying to hit and rotates through until 8 of each distance, 24 total shots.  No retakes, no deletes, no hiding.  It is a great way to get some quick but effective practice with a little added pressure.  It lets you select distances and tee clubs or will recommend distances as you progress through combine sessions.  One thing I like doing is using my 5-wood or hybrid off the tee because I don’t love hitting my driver into the net and it gets me extra practice with those other tee clubs.

The performance combine is quickly becoming my favorite mode to use when I’m practicing at home because it adds a little pressure to the routine and demands focus.  I’ll be using this in the offseason to keep as fresh as possible to hit the ground running in the Spring.  Spending an occasional session just hitting balls to stay loose has its place too, but the gamification of the combine keeps you engaged and produces more valuable insight as to where my game is at.  I was not surprised at all to learn that Dr. Sasho Mackenzie helped to design the combine feature since his app for The Stack is my favorite for speed training and he seems to have a knack for creating engaging apps to keep you working towards better performance.   

Play It or Trade it? 20/20

I will be using this all winter to keep fresh and try to keep my shot making sharp as well.  I can see myself using the range feature along with my speed training to maintain my full swing.  But I also plan to use the combine feature to challenge myself to hit specific target distances and drive with that little added bit of pressure from combine sessions.  I also love the impact vision as it allows me to keep an eye on my actual contact versus what I perceive as good contact. 

Some areas I’d love to see continued development are mainly in the simulator functions.  They are rather basic, but functional right now.  I am looking forward to multiplayer support, which is something they have already mentioned as in the pipeline, so I hope that comes to fruition soon. 

I’d also like to see full computer/mac support.  I think this would really help the Rapsodo MLM2PRO compete against the more simulator focused competition and would really allow this unit to be used much easier in a home sim setup with a projector.  I’m hopeful that the folks at Rapsodo are thinking about this since they recently launched the web portal which was really their first time utilizing a non-phone-based space. 

The quality of the MLM2PRO and simulator function, as well as support for e6 and a few other platforms point to the overall potential for this launch monitor to be a hub for your home simulator setup, so I hope they can put the development into a computer app which should only require a firmware update of the unit to make work after that.  Either way, I’m really enjoying my time with the Rapsodo MLM2PRO and look forward to seeing what future enhancements Rapsodo comes up with!

 

Overall Total 92/100

The Rapsodo MLM2PRO is everything I wanted the original MLM to be and more.  Relatively easy to set up and use, a number of smart features, excellent combine mode, and simulated course play punch up the value users get along with improved accuracy and spin figures while using the Callaway RPT balls.  Add to that frequent firmware updates and communications from Rapsodo and future updates that should add even more features and you have one awesome tool for practice and play when you can’t get on the course.

Without a doubt this was one of the most requested items for member testing and we are so happy that Rapsodo agreed to come on board with this member test. It should be a lot of fun and a great test to follow along with!

A lot of you already know me and my intro so I will go over with the short version here and stay mainly to my golf game. 

My name is Jamie and I am the Forum Director here for MyGolfSpy Forum. You will see me all over the forum posting way too much and doing my best to be the most active person here. I am originally from Canada, but moved to Switzerland just over 3 years ago. While it may seem impossible and many think that I am a bot I do have an actual day job as an Ice Technician making ice for curling events and halls all over the world. It is essentially my dream job and I truly love what I do. 

When I moved to Switzerland it took me a while to get back into golf. Changing countries, different languages and all made it quite difficult. However I have found a home at a course called Otelfingen Golf Park near Zurich Switzerland. 

I played a lot of golf this season despite my wife and I welcoming our second child (Audrey) in June. It was an up and down season, however a little later in the year I started to find a groove and play some proper golf. Now that the season is cold golf is still available, but I have enjoyed more practice with my son and using my at home setup more. This is where the Rapsodo MLM2Pro came in. 

My Initial Impressions were to be straight up stellar. I had the original MLM and gifted it to a colleague as while I enjoyed the unit, in the end I found it to be a nice to have device and not something which I found had a lot of longevity to its use. 

The ability to work with android was also a game changer for the MLM2PRO. Although I have an ipad and other apple devices, my daily devices are all android based. 
In terms of setup, the setup of the unit couldn’t be easier. With phone in hand everything is marked and within a matter of seconds you can have the whole unit aligned for your session on the range or at home into a net.

The carry case is awesome too. I am not sure if anyone mentioned it prior, but I love the size and how it keeps everything organized has a little pocket to hold charging cable or other devices you may have. Only pitfall is maybe it would be nice to be a shade bigger so it could hold a couple of the RPT Golf Balls. 

The app is largely the same and I do have some suggestions for improvement, some of which have been addressed, others I am still waiting on which I will go over later. 
The unit itself is very sturdy and feels like a high quality build. The change in color and out of the box is everything I had been hoping for. With that I am awarding the Rapsodo MLM2PRO a 8/10 for First Impressions. 

Aesthetics

So I covered a bit of this prior in my first impressions, but I want to touch on a few other things other than the build of the unit itself. 

I got so many looks and questions at the range with this device. I had dozens of people wanting to try it out and see how it worked. This included a pro coming up to me and asking if we could take to the Trackman and compare the data. Unfortunately I was packing up and didn’t have time so we are going to try and do that later. 

Bottom line this thing is an eye opener and with it grabbing so much attention there is definitely a lot of positives to say from that. 

The build again and looks as well as color scheme is exactly what I like. Not too flashy, but solid and the fact it is as small as it is and can fit in the bag is an extreme positive. 

Truly nothing to knock here 10/10!

The Numbers -

Let’s be honest here we could go on and on for days with the numbers. Several of our other testers have done an excellent job of highlighting the accuracy and finer points. So here are my highlights.

On the Range

• Data points are really good. Whether comparing to top tracer or shooting yardages with my range finder I found what Rapsodo was showing to be extremely accurate and following the ball flight with great accuracy. 
• Missed shots? Yes there were a few, but  not enough to make note of. The additional updates to chip shots has made a big difference as well. 
• This is both a good and bad thing for me. There are 13 data points available for your viewing. On the screen (phone or tablet) it will show you the 4 which you select. If you want the other pieces you need to stop and press and hold or highlight the shot to view the full data. It is all there, just takes a bit extra viewing. 

Into the Net

• Some found data to be a little less reliable here, but the key is the RPT balls. Use them and this thing is money. I have spend the majority of my time using the MLM2PRO into my net and love it.
• I will say I don’t 100% know about the driver data. I do trust it, however sometimes I felt it left me a little short. Or maybe that is more my ego. 
• While I did struggle for a bit of time on shorter chips this was remedied with the most recent app update. 

Simulation

• Again I used this into the net and Csiders13 did a great job of highlighting the options available. However I loved the simulation feature and this was the complete game changer for me. 
• Of the 3 options I have stuck mainly to the Rapsodo courses. I have played several rounds all on various courses, some I have played some I have not. Most importantly I used the MLM2PRO as a warmup for a tournament at a course that I had never played. The course design overall was great, however I noted the elevation changes didn’t come off as accurately and trees acted like walls and there was no chance to get through them. However I can honestly say that it helped me prepare for the round and without question saved me several strokes.
• Options within the simulation and for the price is just top notch. I will have more updates on this as the season progresses. 

Overall the numbers here are very reliable and at the price it gives any purchaser a lot for their money. The main thing again is use the RPT balls. It makes a world of a difference. 
Given all the above I believe a fair rating of 17 out of 20 is fair. 

On Course - Adapted

I will admit I haven’t been able to use this on course as yet. Between rain, course density and availability has been too limited. 

However I will take this space to share my thoughts on the cameras and features. 

The ability to take one swing and have 3 different and usable camera views of the same swing was game changing. Being able to breakdown and analyze your swing from down the line, impact and face on using your phone or tablet is simply the best.

Being able to see deflection on the club face via the shot vision is astounding and humbling. However it is the ability to go slowly frame by frame that is the difference marker. I can breakdown my swing, release, takeaway and strike frame by frame and see the changes that cause each action. As someone who has been working on swing changes this is another standout feature which all golfers can benefit from.

The App

While there is so many great features on the app, it may be the area where I am most picky. The basic features are there and carry over from the original with some obvious additions. There are a few things I would maybe tweak or change with the app, however Rapsodo has continued to push through regular updates that addressed any initial qualms I had. These include in their most recent update a bulk club add feature. The one time I had issues connecting it was remedied by a quick app update and off we went!

So what I liked

• Cloud Storage! The ability to hold and go back view previous sessions for reference is a true standout. 
• Session insights - When finishing a session if you have taken at least 5 shots with a single club it will provide you with a insights which gives you additional data comparing your game vs a pro or handicap of your choosing. It will help you know where to focus your next practice session with those clubs. 
• Dual cameras I have already messaged, but should be said again. So good. 
• Gapping sessions and overall data available to dive into. 
• Simulation which again I have gone over. 

What I didn’t like as much

• Adding Clubs and switching club inventory. This is where I think the most can be done. While some updates have added being able to do bulk clubs. I haven’t found how to use the inventory as I wish to. 
• Simulation club input. Now maybe I need to do some more digging, but when I have done simulation and just simply played. When I ended the round all the clubs were listed as driver. Not the end of the world, but I think I need to select each club each time which I understand. 

I did not have any other issues or hiccups throughout the testing period. 

Other questions I have seen asked are about battery life and for the phone. I use a Pixel 6 Pro and could use it for a full hour session or simulation on HD and only lose 35 to 40 percent of phone battery life. The unit itself I charged once every 3 sessions which seemed suitable. 

We also have a section called The Good, The Bad, The In between. I have covered a lot and rather than rehashing I will trust you can understand what I see as good or bad so far. Therefore I am going to skip through a little bit and go straight to the Play it or Trade it?

Is there any question? No, I am playing this. I am thrilled with this device and it is becoming a centre piece for training, my swing changes and my home setup as well as range practice. 

Easy 20/20 here. 

Conclusion

I am going to sum this up quickly by saying I really enjoyed the original MLM, however the MLM2PRO has taken Rapsodo from a nice to have to a must have piece of equipment for me.

The data you get, the video analysis, cloud storage, price, camera options and simulation have made this a go to device for me and I will highly recommend it to anyone considering this device for all facets of their game.

I have touched on this prior, however the addition of the new R-Cloud system is a deal breaker for me. If there was anything or anyone on the fence that kinda made me feel that the MLM2Pro was falling short it was that there was no way to view my stuff on PC and limited to the app. This changes that for the better in every way.
