Aerojet Max Driver was great today, with long drives of 282, 275 and 273; all of which were draws, which again is new for me.

... Nice. You would enjoy Phoneix courses that start getting ready for over seeding and scalp the fairways before they actually close down. That 282 would probably be 332. 🤪  It's only a few days before they shut down but it is a ton of fun while it lasts.

good morning everyone.

had a fun senior scramble wind up yesterday at our club, I contributed, sunk a 15 footer from off the front of the green on number 1 for a birdie, the pressure to perform was off lol

put an approach shot to 6 feet on par 5 number 3 and one of the lads putted it in so that was good, then almost jarred an 80 yd shot on the par 5 9th for another birdie, 3 under on the front.

Our 16 handicap put a second shot to 20 feet on par 5 13 then he sunk the eagle putt to go 5 under, I sunk a 15 footer on 15 for birdie, of course because of my index the lads want me to putt last and I really only had to do that 3 times, which is fine with me.

birdied 18 par 5 to go 7 under as a team and finished T1, our combined index was scratch and the other team was 1 so the bastards got us lol.

Lunch after and a fun day.

Looks like much nicer weather today, playing my own ball today so off we go.

Have a good day everyone...

Played a morning nine at my secondary course. Greens are slower here and most of the breaks aren't so bad. Had a better putting day, although did miss a 3' because I rushed it. Took a swing feel to the course with a more arms first takeaway to the top (similar to NTC) as per instruction from my coach. Hit my drives mostly straight (had two hooks, one straight that I thinned). The par 5 i parred was the thinned drive that went about 208. Hit a beauty of a 4w to 80 yards and was able to pitch on to 8'. That was my best wedge shot of the day. The reason my approach SG is so poor is due to my wedges struggling from 60-110 yards out. Also had a penalty on 9 when I tried to go for it out of the rough with a7w. Lesson learned to just lay up at that point. A great cool round. Saw plenty of wildlife. The recent rains have also gotten this course into wonderful shape.

Shot 43 had 1 double, I haven't been hitting my irons well and my playing partner noticed I was standing too close to the ball. So I tried standing further away and that's all it was, I started hitting solid shots again. Felt weird at first but after a few shots I could tell I was taking the club back to the inside and on plane better. I told him drinks were on me. Hope everyone has a great round.

My driver was weak all day, couldnt get the speed I needed

irons were poor at best, no rhythm and was short on many approach shots.

Putter was acting up.

Trunk slamming kind of day...

Playing an "appreciation by the club" 9 and dine tomorrow then will hang em up for a few days...

... As you know Jim, it happens to everyone. Between my two stellar rounds last week I managed an "80 something". Things were so out of sync on an unfamiliar course with heavy grain and silly pin placements I stopped keeping score. None of the pins were unfair, just really difficult especially never having played the course and I was already struggling. But of course:

Got back on the course for the first time in 2 weeks for an afternoon 9. Started with an easy birdie on a short par 5, then immediately shanked my tee shot on the par 3 second. At that point I though here we go again. I've been struggling with solid contact on my iron shots for the last month or so, but I managed to hit a great wedge from about 50 yards to 8 feet and made the putt for par. I hit most of the greens coming in but didn't make anything outside of 5 feet except to save par on 9. I felt pretty good leaving with a +1 37.

Heyo!

I’ve been able to get on the 9-hole course this past month, putting up some ugly, ugly scores. But I turned a corner yesterday, dropping only two double bogeys and landing two pars.

Highlights:

  • I putted 30 feet with just enough finesse to stop the ball at the lip.
  • Did a nice chip and run with a 7-iron from about the same distance to, yes, stop the ball at the lip.
  • On the last hole, having landed my tee shot under a tree in the fairway, I hooded my 7-iron 60 yards to pass between two bunkers and land the green 18 feet from the hole. Finished it with a par.

Overall, I’m feeling more confident about my game around the green. It’s not perfect by any means, but I’m finding that groove and focusing on the right things at the right time.

Can’t wait for the next round. 😉

Played at a hidden gem type of course this morning while visiting the in-laws.

It is a short (6,000 yds) but very tight layout mainly in the woods. As such, a good game off-the-tee is paramount.

My performance with D, 3W and 3H was one of my best of the season. Only a single penalty stroke off the tee and multiple 300+ yds drives.

Iron play and wedge play were decent. I can’t really ask for more, but it wasn’t one of my top performance either that’s for sure. Went for 3/4 par 5s in two including a 266 yds 3W approach shot that left me a 20’ eagle putt.

Troubles started with my short game. Greens were rock hard and very fast. I had never played such hard and fast greens. 0/4 sand save and 42 PUTTS! I 3-putted 8 times. Before this morning, my worst putting round ever was 38 putts.

Ended up shooting 91(+20) with 2 birdies, a quadruple bogey, very few pars and many many many doubles…

For some reason, I’m not dejected. It was a freak putting performance and I know that I would likely make 10 less putts replaying it tomorrow. On to the next one!

Shot a 94 in cold blustery conditions today. On the good side the wind helped me hit a 288 yard fairway splitter with my Mizuno ST-X 230 driver. On the bad side I missed way too many greens with my wedges with the ball floating away on me. Took a 10 on a par 5 thanks to 2 penalties but aside from that I hit the ball fairly decently.

What's the ruling?

This was a first for me and I wasn't sure what to do.

My approach going into a par 4 was a lengthy 200 yards. To the right of the elevated green is a pond surrounded by reeds. In front of the green are your normal cart exit signs. I hit a perfect shot up the middle and it was heading just short but center of the green. With the bounce and roll it would have been on the center of the green. But the ball hit the cart exit sign kicked right and into the reeds. The ball was easily retrieved but not playable where it lied. I took a drop chipped up and made the putt for bogey.

Was this correct or was the sign considered a temporary or moveable obstruction or something. Should I have placed the ball back by the sign and chipped up without penalty?

Rule 11 covers what to do if your ball in motion hits a person, animal, equipment or anything else on the course. When this happens accidentally, there is no penalty and you normally must accept the result, whether favorable or not, and play the ball from where it comes to rest.

Thanks,

So, I did the right thing. I did look at the rules in section 11 but wasn't sure if there was something else that covered it. Just a dumb place for the sign. But it has a nice dent now. I marked my territory! 🤣

Played at noon today, on a blustery day where the temperature hovered between 47- and 51-degrees F.

Wind from the northwest, steady at about 15 mph, with gusts approaching 25 mph.

Carded a 77 with 39 on the front, and 38 on the back from the white tees playing about 6300 yards.

Started to drizzle and rain on the back nine, which made it a little more difficult. Hit 9 of 14 fairways, 12 of 18 greens, had a total of 35 putts, as the greens appeared to not have been mowed for a couple days due to the rainy weather here, and speeds were much slower than normal.

Longest drive was a wind aided 266 yards, as there was not a lot of roll if any.

Made tee-times for both days next weekend, as the initial weather forecast looks to be similar temperatures, but no rain.

Did use my Red Rooster rain gloves, and they were perfect for the conditions, as my hands stayed both warm and dry.

Also, layered up, with my rain jacket over an insulated jacket, again it allowed me to stay reasonably warm and dry.

Played in an annual birthday scramble over the weekend. Weather was 52 degrees with a 22 mph wind out of the the north gusting to 35 all day. FJ Wintersoft gloves may have saved my life. We've gotten about 4" of rain over the last 3 days and the course was actually in decent shape other than the small lakes that the non-draining bunkers turned into. I hit a couple of great drives and irons, but also plenty of terrible ones. My short game was packed into the bag and helped us stay at +4 for the day in terrible conditions, good enough to secure dead last by three strokes. Zero warm up other than a few balls early in the morning in my garage and a bloody mary meant that I started very slow.

Memorable poor shots: #1, pull hooked my 6 iron approach into the street and directly into a storm sewer intake. Nothing but net. Swish. #4, stepped on my driver about 40 yards offline to the left and into a back yard, never to be seen again. #6, stepped on my driver about 20 yards offline to the left and into a back yard, never to be seen again. #10, driver leaked out to the right at about 250 and saw it land, bounce once just inside the cart path and then go on to win the hide and seek challenge. #12, #17, #18 - filthy banana hook slices off the planet with #18 claiming a roof and my last ball of the day.

Memorable good shots: several mini-shooters of Fireball; 45 yard pitch onto a difficult green to about 10 feet on #2; an absolute missile of a 5-wood on #6 into the wind rolled out to 310 followed up with a 50 yard pitch to 8 feet; a solid 260 yard butter-fade on #7 hit to the middle of the fairway; the prettiest draw I've ever hit with my 6 iron on 165 yard par three #7 hit to 12 feet; another beautiful draw with driver 254 into the wind on 11 found the left side of the fairway followed up with a nice 145 yard 7 iron to the fringe on the back side and a 12 yard downhill chip to 2 feet for a tap in; #12 had another second shot missile from the 5 wood that stopped at 226 after one hopping into a goose (goose was fine, but understandably angry) that left a 75 yard 54 degree that I got to 3 feet for the second bird hit on the same hole.

All in all I hit some some of the best and worst balls of my life on Saturday on a challenging course with challenging conditions, but had a great time helping my buddy celebrate his 40th birthday for the the 4th year in a row.

i also noticed is the yardages i have been figuring out all summer were off so had a really rough start with everything coming up short once i realized i needed to club up on most shots one to two clubs things mad a great turn only played 9 and ended with a +5

I noticed that last week when I played; the cooler temps are about 1 1/2 when I start in the morning and 1 when it warms up into the low 60s

I got your solution. Always play at sunrise. I notice maybe now that fall is here I am down half a club or so but I usually do lay in the 50s or 60s. I dislike sun.

I don’t make the tee times for my group; we typically play around 9 and because the course is difficult people take forever to play their round; yesterday was a 5 hour round.  One of the other courses we play we typically start around 11.   The 9:00 time the temps have been in the upper 40s when we start and was low 60s when we finished.
