Taylormade R15 on instagram

Taylormade is having their followers help them unveil their next club. In the picture below you see 36 squares, each with a screen name inside. Each of these screen names will post a part of a photo that when put together will show the new club.

 

 

This is a very creative way to build hype for a new release. What do you think? Is this corny or cool?

It is indeed the R15, if you search the hashtag #buildtheclub on instagram you can see an image that shows part of the R15 logo.  Top right shows the start of the logo.

It does look like they have some of their pro staff participating but the other names seem to just be normal instagram users who follow tmag.

I've seen the full sole photos on another blog. (They're still up as of 11:00 PM Sunday, go look.) I would copy and paste it, but it's watermarked and frankly I was so disappointed that I didn't want to bother.

 

 Very very disappointing, shark-jumping stuff from Taylormade. It's  a white, slightly longer through the head, two sliding weight SLDR.

 

 Why do we need two sliding weights? For the same reason that Gillette first sold us razors that had two blades and now five.

Update:  It'll have the 2.0 degree R1 shaft adapter, not a new independent loft/angle adapter.   Speeder Evolution 57 gram stock shaft.

 

Very ho hum release.   Only upside I can see is that with two weights (which are very far forward) you might be able to help MOI by splitting them to opposite ends.

Do the adjustments run parallel or do they cross over? 

 

It makes me wonder how long before they make a driver that has some secret combination you can use with weights and sliding to unlock an extra achievement.

You're not far off.   The old Ping adapter had a "secret" setting that only insiders knew about.

I'm not against drawing hype for a new release. Any business will or should do that. Can give them props for trying something different to drum up some interest....it's just....geez another one? REALLY? Do we need another driver? It feels lie only a few weeks ago, the SLDR was THE club? I'm burned out on TMag and Callaway at this point. I'm just not interested.....

Believe it or not the SLDR Loft Up event was last Jan. that's almost an entire year which is like 7 years in TMaG time

The SLDR was actually released mid year of 2013 as well.  They had the loft up event in January but SLDR was actually released around July of 2013.  If the R15 is released for sale in February then it will be  around year and a half since the SLDR release which is closer to the Titliest/Ping releases that most seem to think is so perfect...

The problem is that it is going to take time for the TMaG Rapid Release Cycles crowd sees the logical fallacy and acknowledges that they aren't in fact doing what people think they are.

Egad, a bottom slider groove on the fairway woods!   I don't want to think of the difficult dirt clogs that will have to be dug out of those.

I had the driver in hand 10 days ago at an event here in Kuala Lumpur but I was sworn to secrecy and it looks great! I for one am really glad to see white 'back' (I know it never really went away) 

 

The high MOI thing by splitting the weights definitely gets my attention too...

Hey, Pughdog, glad to see you back.  Hows life on tour?  Did you happen to get the RSi in hand?  Thats about the only upcoming iron release that has me excited.

Hi Bones. Yeah, I've been more of a reader than a poster for a while now. Still come back for my regular equipment fix every now and again

 

Life on tour is great. Had a poor season on the Asian Development Tour but saw things turning around a little towards the back end. One more event left to try to scrape a ranking that will avoid going back to first stage of qualifying school again in January. 

 

The RSI TP irons look fantastic! I was lucky enough to get my hands on Sergios bag so had a good poke around inside. The face slots really aren't that noticable but obviously they are there to do a job and by all accounts they do help a lot! 

 

We had a soft launch for the irons taking advantage of the fact Sergio was sticking around in town after the CIMB Classic. The RSI 1 & 2 went down well with the media and VIPs that were in attendance. I gotta say, Sergio was an absolute gent throughout.
