What is a club you regret selling/wish you still had?

Stealing a topic from the Rick Shiels podcast. Wondering what is a club you regret getting rid of or just wish you still had? (sold/broken or otherwise)

For me, it's a putter. Summer before my senior year of high school, I was looking around the used clubs at a large shop and saw a Scotty Cameron Newport Oil Can. I had been serious about golf for maybe a year at this point and spent waaaay too much time in shops like this hitting putters I could never afford. The new Scottys were never out on the floor, but this used one was out there. Hit a few putts with it, fell in love, and was prepared to be depressed when I saw the price tag. I was absolutely shocked to see that it was labeled for $50. I honestly couldn't even afford that, but couldn't resist. I took the club up to the front, looked for the most bored looking cashier who I thought likely to let me get away with this obvious pricing mistake, paid and walked out with my new putter.

The grip wasn't in the best of shape, but the pro shop at the course I worked at had gotten a bunch of these weird counter-weighted putter grips in. I don't remember the company name, but this was around the year 2002, so it must have been one of the original counter-weight grips ever. Nobody was buying them, so the pro let me have one and I put it on the Scotty. I must have played at least 400 rounds on this putter over the next 3 years (in Colorado), including in joining the university PGM (Professional Golf Management) program, passing my P.A.T. on the number with a 10 footer on the last, and spending a summer as an assistant pro intern at a country club. That last one made me hate the game of golf and everything about it, so the Scotty and rest of my clubs sat essentially untouched for the next two years. Then, after graduating university, I was prepping to move to Japan and all the clubs went up on Craigslist. I believe I sold the putter by itself for $80 (hey, I made a profit!)

Ever since I've gotten back into the game, I've missed that putter (and not just because the kinds of prices I see on Newport oil cans on eBay these days). I don't think I'd game it anymore, because I'm very much a mallet guy now, but I would just want to look at it.

Anyone else have any clubs that got away?

I sometimes miss the first hybrid I ever got. It was TM Rescue from 09. Has some great shots with that club. Had a bit of the left side in it but fantastic club. Replaced with a Titleist 816 H1 and just don't seem to be as consistent. But alas the club is now on to a new owner.

I also miss my first hybrid! From before “hybrid” was even a word, I had the Taylormade Rescue Mid 17*. It was good for a 240 yard straight down the fairway all day. Went the same way as the Scotty. Really the only two memorable clubs from the bag.

There was a hole on my home course that had water about 250 out and this was the perfect club to come up just short. I would choke down a bit and play a low runner to 220. It was automatic. I can still see that shot hitting the middle of the fairway in my head.

I miss my old 300cc Titleist driver.

300cc? Who could ever need a club head that big! Most memorable driver I had back in those days was a Cobra SS Hyper Steel 290cc with a steel shaft. Cracked the face on it (right on the sweet spot) when I was 19.

Titleist 910 D2 driver. That thing was an absolute fairway finder. I sold it chasing distance. Big mistake.

Mine was a TM Spider putter. BUT, I recently found one for a good deal and she's back with me. I now alternate between it and my BM putter.

Ive got a few.  One would be my Mizuno MP Craft center shaft putter.  Another would be a newer Mizuno M Craft Anser style putter and another would be a set of Mizuno MP-62s.

None so far in 56 years. But I don’t replace as often as some players, and fortunately had more to spend each time, so each new club has been a definite improvement. Some will disagree but I can’t imagine playing with persimmon woods, classic blades and a Bullseye putter again...

I dont remember a club I wish I still had.  However I do miss my younger body before the hips and back went bad.

Is the body considered a piece of golf equipment?

I will miss my 52, 56 and 60 vokey sm4s.  The faces are just gone but I just cant part with them and havent found anything else I want.

My very first golf club  ~ 1970 a Jack Nicklaus 9 Iron with very rare and cool aluminum shaft  (with progressive flex point ridges about every ~ 1/2" thicker at top of shaft), lightest club shaft ever, could hit that club perfect. Played it from late  1960's until I sold it mid 1990's. Had brown leather grip. Never seen a club like that. They should go back to aluminum shafts with many many flex points ~ 1/2 inch.

Jazz woods (Driver & Hybrids), TNT Silver Eagle Irons, PW & SW, Slotline Inertia putter. TopFlite Gammer.

In my case, it's a set of irons.  I'm sure Brother @chisag is weary of me bringing them up every so often.  It's the Precept Tour Premium irons, the original muscle cavity model, not the CB model that came later.

I've owned two sets of them, going back quite a few years, and honestly never gave them a full chance.  Traded both sets away after a time.

Always had a thing for them.  They had great feel, best of any CB or CBish iron I've hit.  And I treated them in the finest caffeinated ADD oh-look-a-chicken traditions.

I suppose I could still nab a set, but I'm on the verge of going full graphite, and I've got plenty of irons.  Don't really need to get to 20 sets.  LOL

Great forum topic. This is interesting for me as I have several clubs over the years I have played that I regret parting with.

But the one club that I wish I could go back in time and not have gotten rid of was a cheap seven wood. It was a  early 90's model Tour Tech ( I think GolfSmith component head / had like a graphite insert) with an Apollo Shadow steel wood shaft. Was my automatic 180-210 yard arrow straight club. Have never ever hit a long hybrid or FW with consistency I hit with that one little cheap club.

I have bought name brand, built components with much better technology/shaft combo's since then but nothing matched that one club for me. In a future post I will tell about a putter I wish I had back.
