OK ballstriking, very good putting, and three shanked chips and horrendous pitching. I've got a practice day scheduled Thursday, and if that doesn't help it's time for a check up with my instructor.

Hit the ball extremely well. The long drive today came on our very first hole (shotgun start and we were on the 9th hole). Drive and hybrid to hit the par 5 in 2! Putted very well early 8 putts in the first 6 holes. However, had 3 putts a couple times on the back side. Some tricky pin placements today. Still I’ll take 36/36 every time!

Two triple bogeys on par 3s (handicap 9 and 16) wrecked this score. I hit the ball well all day, especially with the new 6i-PW.

There were also three double bogeys(handicap 1, 8 and 12) but they were on a 400y par 4, a 490y par 5, and a 370y par 4 with deep fescue on the right. All of these played a shot longer than when I usually play here from white tees.

Finding a way to turn birdies into bogeys since 1992. #TeamChunks

You are just poking the bear @Lacassem haha.  I probably shouldn't remind you that 321 would have placed 3rd last week.   😇

But seriously... great score today!

I didn't quote or put his name in there (the name is not to be spoken) but seriousaly I have played this course a million times, I know where I need to hit stuff and that 321 is ALLLLL I will get on that hole. Was a good round nothing bad (no penalties is usually the difference from my 86 to 79) and I just had a couple bad wedges and putts. But its a high rated course but plays well to my flight.

Didn’t have Arccos loaded to measure my drives, but I was nailing it straight down the mower path in the fairway. Driving as far in 75* weather as I did in 95* last year so big hopes for good distance. And will you take into account age? Us seniors can’t compete with young bombers.

Made a swing change this week, which I’m documenting in another thread. The short version is wide stance, less lower body movement, mainly limited knee flex, and more upper body. I had several issues, especially off the tee not getting everything synced properly. Ultimately lead to 7 errant tee shots resulting from an open club face.

Started the round off strong. Par net birdie, birdie net eagle. Then doubled 2 par 5’s and missed a 7’ birdie putt on a par 3 and then drove my tee shot into the woods for another bogey on 6. Then finished the front 9 with 3 pars, 2 of those for net birdie. For a 40 net 36.

Back 9, started with another errant tee shot leading to bogey. Then birdie on the par 5 and a birdie net eagle and par net birdie And after scrambling out of the woods, I had a par on the par 5. Then another errant shot followed by a 4 Rescue 190 yards over the trees with 20 yards of draw to end up 6’ from the pin. Made another birdie net eagle.

At this point I was net even on the front and -5 on the back net. I hit two great shots and missed a 12’ birdie but made par. I was pretty excited at this point. Pulled up to the 17th tee and saw the pin was way back. Grabbed the range finder. It said, 144 yards so I grabbed my 140 club and gave it a bit more juice and carried 144 yards. Into the bushes behind the green over the moguls. It was 128 to the flag. 144 to the bushes behind the flag. I made a double. And bogeyed number 18. I actually hit the fairway and green on 18 but had to putt off the green over a hill because of the pin placement. For a 37 net 34.

Overall, it was a great day. Considering I made a swing change, all be it to one that I used most of last year with some refinements, an excellent round. 8/14 Fairways. 9/18 Greens. 29 putts.

The crazy thing was that I made 4 pars and 3 birdies on the hardest 7 holes, my stroke holes. Plus another birdie. My iron play and wedges are great. Putter is awesome. Just need to sort the driver.

I played in a par 3 scramble after the round. I made all 9 putts, unfortunately it was for a 23 and 21 was the winning score.

Next round Friday. However, the last few days we have had very little wind. The wind averages 14 mph here. It’s been 3-5. For example, my best shot of the day was the approach on 15. Typically that would be in a 20 mph head wind and would have required a 3 wood instead of a 4h.

A round of what could have been. Got hit with hail and rain throughout. Birdie chances on all the psr 5s but couldn't convert. Drove the ball lights out hitting 9 fairways (that's good for me haha) and made 3 sand saves for par. The approach game just was behind a step which was too bad. The big break through is coming tho. I can feel it.

Ball striking was excellent, 53* Wedge still coming up short, causing a couple extra strokes. Best round this month!

Didn’t have Arccos loaded to measure my drives, but I was nailing it straight down the mower path in the fairway. Driving as far in 75* weather as I did in 95* last year so big hopes for good distance. And will you take into account age? Us seniors can’t compete with young bombers.

Welcome to "The Tour" B_R_A_D_Y!

I feel you on competing with the young guns... though I don't think I could have kept up with them in my youth either 🤣

Feel free to link the other thread in your comments here Rick.  I'm sure many are interested in your journey (including me) and a link could take us right there!!  I'll read through your other thread... but are you saying that you went to the wider stance, or moved away from the wider stance to help with your errant tee shots?  I'm sure it is well documented on the other thread... but I'll probably forget my question by the time I make it over there (I'm old, I have CRS syndrome... haha).

Awesome score this round!

ALERT: post for last week, date of play was 4/9/2023.  Can't back date the post app that far, hoping @Golfspy_TCB can correct.

This was a testament to dedication.  There's no way most people would choose to suffer these conditions, though they were slightly better than I had expected.  See here for the forecast just before heading off to the course:

Screenshot_20230409-093928.png.9014a906725d6333030272e31a1c819a.png

Not bad, pretty consistent.  Not sure if 95% vs 96% vs 97% matters too much.  Total rainfall for the day was predicted at .9", mostly in the afternoon.  Tee time is 13:51.

I'm a bit stiff and it's gonna be wet, so I figure it's a +2 club kinda day.  I get to the range for some warm up and am happy to see that I'm mostly hitting straight, if not pushing it slightly, but only a few bananas.   First tee shot was good.  Not far, but in the middle.  Pretty happy about that.  Then the next 4 holes suck, bad.  Kept doing something funny and it took flight 45° to the right of my target line for the next many shots.  Ended up with a 10 on #1, which is by far the worst I've ever done.

By halfway down the second hole (it's fun, normally), I come to the conclusion that the whole course is a bog.  You must hit it clean to have any hope of getting anywhere.  Miss fat, get mud and water between the club and the ball on top of the loss of speed through the muck.  Hit it thin and you are most likely to bury it in the mud.  I'd say I lost 20 strokes due to these types of mishits.  On #7 (index 1), I again hit my tee shot to the middle.  My next two strokes got me a whopping distance of... 6ft.   On many tee shots my total distance was less than the carry, as it would plug, then bounce out a few inches back.  So, a good tee strike with my driver down a 45' drop for a total distance of 178 wasn't so bad in reality.

Putting was also terrible, but the greens were water parks.  Most balls would hydroplane about ¾ of the way, then die at twice the rate of normal.  Made for interesting putting.  Lines didn't hold as much as expected either.  At least we weren't playing the west side where greens don't drain nearly as much as on the east side, (except for West #13, which is a beast).  See the typical greens conditions for the day below.  Can you find my ball on #6?

PXL_20230409_235907685.jpg.b9501fe1366edede5c305bdf3c2e5bbb.jpg

After the 4th hole we found our stride and how to cope with the adverse conditions with it being very soggy and unsure footing.  I did go through three towels keeping equipment playable.  My clothing looks like I had just mucked out the pig pen, but did smell better than that.  All in all it wasn't too bad and still had fun. My normal poor play on this course should have been 55/65.  My playing partner @Eddy Dragonetti only beat me by one stroke on net, so pretty confident I can just chalk it up to bad weather.  We decided not to count this against our handicaps.  And, got the tee stuff right towards the end, so there's that.

That looks like Augusta on Friday!  haha.  Props to you for trudging through the slop to get your round in!!

I'll see what I can do to move your score back to last week.  Thanks for the heads up.

Actually Week 1 is still open for posting (not locked yet) so if you have a round to post during that week, it should let you do it in that thread (rather than trying to back date in this week's thread).  I'll move it over for you... but just for future reference to the group.  That said... I calculate the weekly winners on Monday night Tuesday morning, so anything after that won't be considered for the badge awards 😉

Awesome score this round!

Here’s my journey.

Basically, it is stable lower body maintaining knee flex and more upper body. Todd Graves really focuses on the setup first. I think when I did it previously I may have been thinking or focusing on the wrong part of the swing. Yesterday, the approach shots were awesome.

First double bogey, was a slight misfire to the right when I intended to draw the ball. I was forced then to cut the ball around the woods and go a little close and hit a leaf. 1 leaf. And it changed the trajectory to OB. Hit the exact same shot, and since the leaf was now gone, I ended up in front of the green. Barely missed the bogey putt.

Second double was simply getting out of position with the tee shot and then going for the birdie instead of going for the center of the green. Third was aiming the range finder at the bushes instead of the flag.

I’m very excited about my game right now. My confidence in the putter makes everything so much easier. However, full disclosure these 2 rounds I’ve posted here are from the shorter tees than I usually play. I don’t feel bad about it. Tees should be on how far you hit the ball not age. And I have a handicap from those tees, which I use here.

240-250 is a good drive for me, but usually play from farther back with the 270-280 hitters. It depends on how many we have show up in our group. Saturday and Wednesday all the others were over 65 and played from the golds so I played there. It doesn’t really matter to me because I have worked hard on my bag and am just as likely to hit the green with a rescue club as a short iron or should I say unlikely.

idk, too many swing thoughts or maybe I need a small reset on golf. I've been in a weird funk the last few rounds. Maybe I'm also so out of shape that I just can't handle walking the course 🤣 Either way, I need to figure out what's going on.

After playing on Tuesday like I'd never held a club was out again today with a respectable 78. Played well except for a blip on 3, 4 and 5. Driving cost be the 2 doubles and single bogey. Lost ball on 3 with a cut in to the gorse, pull on 4 into the ditch for a penalty and push at 5 blocked out by the trees and didn't take my punishment.
