Last few rounds have been cold....and so has my game!  Played 2 awful rounds in a row....putting wasn't sharp, chipping/pitching was abysmal, and ball striking was erratic.  I hate winter golf with the extra clothing and (for me) wet/muddy turf with dormant grass.  Supposed to be very cold this week and next week I'm headed to Plano, so likely won't play until after the New Year.  Happy Holidays to everyone here on MGS!

I hear you.. it was 39 degrees when we started and finished at 49 degrees on Saturday.. just hard to get going, super inconsistent round. This week temps are dropping to 10-20 degrees.. no golf this week/weekend.

Our group’s average age is around 75 years old, maybe slightly older.  Under 45* guys start dropping out.

Maybe I should adopt this standard since I'm in your average age category.  Problem is that my wife turns 67 shortly and doesn't mind playing in cold weather.  I never did either... I wonder how long it will take for her to "understand"?  🥴

I can play when it cold and stay reasonably warm, except for my hands!  When they get cold, I have no feeling for putting or chipping... and I seem to do more of that than usual.

We were supposed to meet @ 7:30 I got there @ 7:20 (only a few minutes from home by cart) and 8 guys were already there!  A few more came in after me.  I don’t think these guys sleep.

I used to play in New England as long as any course was open with shorts mostly.  We played in sleet/snow/freezing rain BUT NOW no way.  I want my Senior comforts.

Yep...we're a bit north of you and have had similar temps.  I don't mind it in the 40s, but next week will be in the teens...besides being cold, I'm sure the course itself will be closed to keep the people off the greens.  Of course, the weathermen get it wrong a lot and it may change.

My issue is the added layers of clothing restricting the swing a bit and couple that with wet ground and turf interaction.....and scores go up accordingly.  Next week will remain below freezing, so I'm sure the course will be closed.

This year I went to a base layer, regular golf short, merino wool sweater; basically what I wear on a cool spring/fall day... and a heated coat!!  Game changer!!

So I actually got out and played over the weekend - and yes those nifty heated gloves worked nicely! - and despite extra layers and messy conditions played reasonably well!

It's been a while since my last round .. been practicing and continuing lessons, and then practicing some more .. and it seems to have paid off. Won't say I hit a lot of great golf shots, but I hit mostly playable shots at least and very few stinkers.

Still have problems off the tee, though. But... Only lost one ball off the tee which I "shouldn't have" (quote-unquote) .. solid shot down the right side .. we saw it land just into the right rough .. but when we got up there, no ball to be found anywhere around... 🤷‍♂️

Temporary greens in place now so it was just a practice round and we didn't keep score.

Chipping / pitching towards the flag was a total guessing game if the ground ahead was wet and soft, ie. no runout, or drier and firmer, ie. more than expected runout; and then putting (so called) was just kinda knock it towards the hole and watch it bounce around over the uneven ground - really makes you appreciate modern manicured greens!

Anyway nice to be out there .. .. who knows when the weather here will allow another chance....

I’m sorry, but 39* F at tee-off time and 49* F at the finish does not qualify as “cold” or even “overly cool” in the group (or on the winter tour) that I play with. Unless the wind is 20+ MPH, we consider those conditions to be quite warm.

Played Wednesday morning low 50’s and cloudy with 8 mph winds.  Not sure what anyone shot as a Greens Keeper was over watering greens in front of us as we were playing!  Not fun when greens are saturated, flag holes water filled and puddles everywhere.  Only good part is I’m hitting the PXG 0211 driver pretty good.
Bad part is one of our friends in this group for years is in hospital, he has a heart attack a few days ago.  He is recovering and talking to him yesterday sounds good.  Need him back, great BB!!

So cold yesterday, I wasn’t able to remove my sweatshirt until the 8th hole!

irons were working today for some unexplained reason, so I shot a pretty good score.. but I’m telling ya, the days in the 60°’s are pretty tough to struggle thru in the mornings with 7 layers on…

I know the feeling!  We have the day off work so I was planning on hitting the course, but all my playing partners bailed.  Apparently -5° with sustained 30mph winds is "too much" and I'm a "lunatic."
