40/36 at Granite Falls South today.  We took 1st place for team and I took first individual. The front could have been worse but I made a couple of really good up and downs.  I birdied #1, which always helps get the mojo going.  On both par 5's I hit great drives (distance wise, ~230 yards) but both ran into the thick bremuda with only about half the ball showing.  I tried to dig those shots out with my 3w but caught the ball thin both times, only advancing about 80 yards . I may switch to the TM Gapr 3 iron for these lies until they mow the height down a bit this fall/winter. 

Tore up the back nine, making pars and 2 more birdies thru 17.  Great drive on #18, great second shot, perfect 112 yard distance for my wedge to the back flag/top deck of the green.  But I caught the shot fat and it landed right on the edge... thought it was going to hold... but nope, it rolled back down about 30 feet.  I did get the lag putt to about 5 feet and just needed to make that for the 35 .

Shot 41 in our league playoffs and lost by one. The guy that beat me hit his second shot on one a par five long about 3 yards over the back, this green slopes hard back to front. He hit his chip shot too hard and I am thinking that ball is going to end up 5 yards off the front, hits the pin square and goes in for an eagle. I pard hole and was 2 down after one. Oh well he's a good egg and I enjoy playing with him. I will get him tomorrow. Hit them well everyone.

Played a very nice course that made its entry in the top 50 public courses in Canada following some changes that they made since last time I played there about 8 years ago.

Roller coaster of a round under a constant drizzle. Driver wasn’t cooperating for the first 12 holes. Incurred 4 penalty strokes including two drives OB. Also lined up two consecutive triple bogeys due to mental mistakes/tiredness and most importantly: Pissed off-ness…

Had 2 birdies but should have been 4 as I left easy birdie putts SHORT due to soaked/slow greens.

Played a matchplay against a friend who has been historically much better at golf than me and despite my handicap being basically at a record low for me (9.0 versus 8.6), I only had 3 strokes on him and won 2&1. Quite happy!

44 (+8) & 44 (+8) for 88 (+16)

FIR: 3/7 & 3/7 for 6/14

GIR: 5/9 & 3/9 for 8/18

Putts: 20 (3x 3-putt) & 15 (1x 3-putt) for 35 (4x 3-putt)

Owen and I played a scramble out at Silver Ridge for the local high school golf team with our friends Mark and Paul.  It was a good time.  Paul's game had abandoned him to the point that this was only his second time out this year.  His driver was still not great but the rest of his game was pretty decent.  Great to see him out there playing again and I really hope he comes back all the way next year.

Teamwork was the name of the game today, and not necessarily in a good way.  We had a number of shots where there was only one good option, and a few times that good option wasn't the best of choices, either.  On a good note, we all contributed fairly equally; everyone sank at least a couple of putts and the shots tee-to-green were split up pretty evenly.  The bad note is that our approach shots were rarely close which left us with few good scoring chances.

We went -5 with six birdies and a bogey.  Food was good, a bunch of money was raised for the kids, and we all had a good time.

Got through 6 holes tonight with my oldest before we had to call it a night to come home for dinner. School night so can’t be out late. That said, I was sitting at an even 30 through 6 holes. Two 1 putts and the rest 2 putts. Was playing MUCH better than last week Friday, so was really happy with that. Off the tee was good except for one hole I hit 7 wood and left it too far left to carry a wooded corner. Struck it very well and had it been online would have been middle of the fairway. Looking forward to Friday morning to play another 9 and may try to finish off the last three holes if allowable, then 18 Saturday or Sunday!

Seemed to be a bit of a struggle at times but I’m still happy to be playing golf. Shot a 46/44 - 90 yesterday afternoon that included only two pars and two doubles. I really just couldn’t get myself into a comfort zone and missed a lot of greens. Add in some inconsistent chipping and the strokes tally up quickly. Both of the pars were the exception to that with great up & down chips to set up tap in pars.

Played this past Sunday morning with my dad - our usual Sunday round. We got the last 4-some of the day due to a shotgun start outing starting at 1pm. Our usual playing partners oddly enough never showed, so dad and I got to go out as a 2-some following the initial 7 4-somes that were out ahead of us.

My day started off pretty well, from a ball striking perspective. First two holes were GIR (that first hole is almost never a GIR for me), but both then followed with 3 putts.  Things didn't go downhill from there luckily, but it was a mixed bag of striking. I caught some fat, a couple thin, but for the most part I kept the ball in play with better decisions and slightly better ball striking than in the past. I think that practice session on Friday helped me on that front. Plus I started adding a takeaway/hip turn slow partial practice swing to my iron routine to remember the work my swing coach and I are doing with my iron swing to help get more turn in the downswing.

3 pars, 11 bogeys, 2 doubles, 1 triple, and 1 hole I'd like to forget. 47/47/94 was my final count. 3 lost ball penalties (2 on the same hole) and a few extra shorter putts I let slip away cost me a score in the 80's. But my striking was better, my 3w off the tee was a bit longer and straighter, and other than those 2 really bad holes I played good golf. Things are trending in the right direction I believe.

Shot 42 this morning had one double and missed 3 putts inside 4 feet. Hitting my driver really well and my chipping is getting a lot better which is really helping. Hope everyone has a great day on and off the course.

Played Windmill this morning with another friend of mine. Much better than Sunday and my new swing saw some progress with distance gains with the iron.

My ball striking was a little off last night, I was only 1/9 GIR.  I did manage to chip and putt well enough to scratch out a 3 over 38 and win my league match by a stroke though.

Shot a 43 I had 7 bogeys and 2 pars. The last hole I hit my chip way short and when I put the club in the bag I realized i grabbed my Sand wedge not my pw. Have a wonderful day everyone.

Headed out to my club early this morning, beautiful round...I tell you what though, there is ALWAYS that one hole it seems. UGH. Luckily the course is so short even from the tips it's hard to get into TOO much trouble but the one par 5 with a road just to the left, I found it of course. LMAO

 

Drove the ball pretty well, even the fairways I missed weren't by much (except the third hole) but my wedge game was definitely on point today. Only had 13 putts on the front nine, one of the better stats I've had in recent memory. Done by 9:30 and back to work

Bookend 38's today in men's league, individual Stableford.  T6 in first flight. I put both drives off #1 and #2 into the bunkers that cost me bogies... not a great start.  On #4 I pulled the drive into the waste bunker and had a lousy lie and tree trouble for the second shot... which went into... wait for it... a bunker.  I did manage to get up and down for the par 5.  Missed a couple more of those "inside 10 foot birdie putts" (@cnosil, in case you are keeping track ) but pretty happy overall with the round.

Shot what I *believe* may be my PB 9 hole score - 40 on a par 35 course. 1 birdie (on the first hole, no less!), 3 pars, and 1 double bogey. 6/7 fairways, 5/9 greens. Only one 3 putt, and of course it came on a hole where I had GIR.

Almost did that in the same day Monday. Round #1 35/42 for a 77. Round #2 46/43 for a 89. Difference of 12 strokes in a matter of about 6 hours.

Putter was on fire today. Had 28 putts which is a record low for me. All my 1st putts left me easy closeout putts. Notable putts are listed below.

• Tap-in par following 30’ putt on the 2nd hole.
• 20-25’ birdie putt on the 3rd hole.
• 15’ birdie putt on the 7th hole.
• 20-25’ par save putt on the 8th hole.
• Tap-in bogey following a 50’ putt on the 13th hole (penalty stroke on this hole).
• 10-12’ curler birdie putt on the 17th hole.

I managed to get myself out of multiple bad situations thanks to my iron play as my driver continued to make my golf life absolutely miserable. I am at a loss for words describing this area of my game…

Had 3 birdies, 7 pars, 4 bogeys and 4 double bogeys.

Shot 38 (+2) & 43 (+7) for 81 (+9) and 3 penalty strokes.

Got out to the course today as part of completing a secret shaft mission.

Shot a 51 on the front nine, mostly due to 3 blow up holes. Putting SG was bad, but I really had some nice rolls (par putt on 1 from 24' just under read break, 9' on 3 for par missed left, 18' to 6" on the first blow up hole below).

One of those holes I hit a poor drive. I really should have played it up the adjacent hole but I tried to get it back into play instead and that took me two shots. Then my approach with my 7i was a strong hook and had to pitch on.

The second blow up hole I hit a poor tee shot with my 7i on a par 3 (hit a second ball to 15ft so I know I can play this hole better). Tee shot hit a tree and i had to hit a low runner out with my 6i that ran over the green. Then chipped on, with the ball rolling over the hole and leaving a 30' putt. Hit that to 5' but missed the comebacker.

The hole after that hit my drive OB. Took a drop and played 4. Didn't have a shot at the green. Then my pitch was just off (hit some extra shots from same spot and was hitting them to 4'-15' so just missed the initial pitch). That pitch was in a fridge/rough transition and short sided. tried to chip with my 58 and bladed it, nearly holing it. Then 2 putts after nearly making the 19' triple.

Then the last hole, had a 9' putt for par and just pushed it right, thinking there was a slight break. Then missed the comebacker from 5'.

Overall I am not surprised in my play. It was sub 50* out. Greens were fast and cold so balls just rolled forever.  Learned I should try to stop flighting in 9 irons into greens from 120-130 out. Tried that today and it hit and rolled off the green. Hit a second ball with my GW to 10' which would have been for birdie.  Also learned my 4w is an okay club of the tee but not as useful as driver. Hit one great drive with it 250 but otherwise I was hooky. Speaking of hooks, i am thinking I may need to weaken my grip slightly. I have noticed with my swing work I can hit some nice baby draws but my big miss with all clubs are these terrible hooks. I may have to reach out to my coach. I will have a check-in lesson with him in 3 weeks so maybe I wait until then.

40/39 at Desert Springs this morning. It was only 3 strokes worse than my round there yesterday but that 79 sure felt like an 89.  Never seemed to find a groove today, three 3 putts, shorted approaches, and only a single birdie on #18.  Shots on line but off distance and off line right on distance ruled the day . My positive takeaway is another sub 80 round.  Looking back only 6 months ago, and my back muscle problem, I was struggling to shoot 80... so things could be worse.

Well, arrived in Hawaii yesterday late afternoon (late evening by my normal clock). Went to the Kona Country Club this morning to make some reservations and wouldn’t you know it…. Tuesday of this week they aerated the greens. So, not sure how they are gonna roll but we will do our best. Go figure. First round is schedule tomorrow morning at 0908 (3:08pm by my home time - still acclimating). Will post later tomorrow as to the conditions and how it goes.

Played 9 holes after work tonight at Falcon Valley. It's a really well put together 9 hole course, and this was my fourth time playing. I managed to string together a PB score beating my previous best by 5 strokes (50 previous).
The first 4 holes were an absolute roller coaster, and then I managed to adjust and finish out pretty solid.
This course doesn't have any range, and starts out with a pretty tricky par 5; so you never know what you're going to get. Today, I went with a 275yd fade (crushed for me) with a tremendous bounce and roll out into the water right. Got on to the green from my drop but three putted from there to set the tone. Recovered with a par on a par 3 only to triple bogey a par 4 and double bogey a par 5.
Highlight of the night would be hole 6. Had a nice drive but left it out right a bit about 65yds back of the green in the rough. Skulled my approach shot with the 60° to land in the tall grass behind the green. Managed a great recovery shot from the tall grass, landed before the hole and nearly went in but I managed about 7-8ft putt to close out par.

Got out for another 9 to post this score. Played Heart of America - River Course, maybe the busiest 9 hole course in the KC metro but they have cheap rounds and easy to walk. On paper this course is easier than Falcon Valley (especially from the forward tees), but for me this course is very compact with trees on the perimeter and untamed natural grass scattered throughout, pretty easy for me to miss the fairway. (Falcon Valley, White tees - 34.7 course/122 slope & HoA, Yellow tees 31.3 course/96 slope)

Putting continues to be a nightmare, but I managed to keep it under 50, phew! Looked at birdie three times today (and possibly an eagle chance), but I decided that's too flashy and went for par .

Got taken to Top Golf by my mates for my Bucks Party. I quickly figured out trying to play any game against my very new-to-golf friends wasn't going to be overly fun because I was flogging them, so I switched to going full send and literally swinging for the fences. 

Very proud to report that I was asked kindly by the staff to not hit any more balls over the back fence . Speed training has really paid off apparently. 

After that I switched to drinking some very nice ginger beers with whisky chasers and mostly spent the rest of the night trying to see how high I could hit a lob wedge. 

 

Great session, I rate it 10/10.

Another solid low 80s outing.  42/41 83.  Overall my game has cleaned up a lot but I'm still having trouble shaking the bogey+ holes. 

Shot scope has been very handy in helping me finally diagnose this.  Its showing me that I gain strokes on 5 index off the tee and green, but am getting killed on approach and short approach.  Make a mistake off the tee and my approach game isn't capable of bailing me out (specifically from beyond 170 yards).  It spirals, miss the green with my third, and I end up with a weird short approach shot to get on the green with my fourth.  Weird enough that I struggle to get within 1 putt range.   I've been working hard on this from a couple angles -- the obvious one being working on long irons & hybrids -- the less obvious one being hitting a high percentage short or mid iron to a specific distance and lie that I hit the green from more often.  (57% from 100-150 yards from the fairway).   Long irons and hybrids were much, much better today.  Hit the green from 218.   and made par.  Decided to lay up on a couple others (including after a bad tee shot) and also made par.

Finally got out yesterday, been a few weeks, crazy last couple weeks of life. Shot 85 but felt WAY worse than that, so can't complain I guess. Only 1 birdie, should have had a few but burning edges on putts like crazy, and 2 doubles that were both 3 putts. Short game was a bit off, rust I guess. Have a great weekend.
