MyGolfSpy - TaylorMade LOFT UP+ Experience

Recommended Posts

I'm completely sold on "Loft Up". I went from 8° in my R1, to 10.5° in the SLDR, with the same Speeder Tour Spec 7.2X. I added about 1.5° degree of launch angle, but cut spin by an amazing 1500RPM. I was a little nervous and not swinging real great and I still picked up about 10yds. When we got back to the hotel and I went to the range with HighFade, I was hitting it an easy 320. This SLDR is the real deal. TMags goal is to reach "Nirvana" at 17° launch and 1700RPM spin; they have a prototype that is still 3-4 years out, but they had a robot hit one and at 90mph swing, hit 270. The future of distance IS coming.

@revkev,

Absolutely. I definitely saw the difference in the different shaft weights. You may not see it much if it's close, but if it's off too much, I couldn't put the club in the ball at all. They laugh at you a little and said "no,that's not right, let's find another one". The fitters actually were more embarrassed than we were when we hit a bad shot,because that prob means they gave us the wrong tool. But to some extent,it is still a lot of trial and error.

We should get all the guys together and average the distance gained vs loft, etc. probably be pretty surprising and enlightening

My fitting went pretty quickly. Once I got warmed up he got me a sldr 460 with the fuji fuel shaft that is in my covert. We started at 11° of loft and my first was this is going to go high. But after a few swings I couldn't get the head on the ball so I asked if I could step away for a moment and calm myself down a bit. When I came back I got a few good swings in and were crushing them.

Then he went and switched heads to 12° with the same shaft. A few more swings and it felt good but not great. He goes back to the tent and puts in a tour ad-di 7x shaft. First swing and I yell to him "what did you do!" It felt night and day better and was so far and high out there. So a couple more to confirm it and he went and built it for me. Can't belive I went from a 9.5° to 12°. Loft up is the real deal

I'll say it, I shot 84 with two triples; I'll take that on a course I've never seen before. I will say that #2 was 320 to the pin and I put it past pin high in the green side bunker. 9 was a ho-hum driver-PW on a par 5. Fell apart on the back, when I was about 10 beers deep. The whole experience was a blast and very eye opening. Will post up pics and more stories when I get back. GREAT group of guys.

Today/Tonight was kind of an "us" night. A few of us have had more drinks than we probably should have. I MAY have used the F-word more than necessary, and Dru MAY have had about 12 drinks too many, but a good time was had by all.

TMAG and MGS, I owe you guys big time.

Straight up, and yes I might be a lot drunk right now, but this has truly been a once n a lifetime experience. First let me say that you could bit asked for a better group to do something like this with. Second, MGS, this is an opportunity that is borderline legendary.  Just wow.  Thank.you.

That said, yeah I kinda played like crap, but that did not matter. The people out there made it such fun that I honestly did not care.  I have about ten pages.of noted to consolidate when my brain regains normality, which may taker until Monday, but Let us be honest.  4days with this group, well et us just say that a better time would be hard to find.....

I will post more once I get a break where the computer is a better option than the tablet   Also there is news to discuss later

Makes me want to run to Edwin Watts and try the SLDR or better yet be on my absolutely best behavior so that I can be on the MGS team that gets to test the proto type that lets the guy with a 90 mph swing speed hit it 270.

I know it's early to start politicing but you never know. :)

Seriously for those of us who are tempted to fit ourselves - I may have access to a launch monitor and a demo club - what should we be looking for with the numbers and where should we start.  It seems like most of you ended up with the same shaft and just lofted up because the SLDR head produces less spin at the higher launch - is that the case?
