Played at a new course and my rangefinder died after the first hole. Thankfully had a yardage book for the course and was able to play alright but it was definitely difficult not knowing my yardages exactly. Still had a blast though!

Great 14 holes of golf today. I started off rough and was behind a slow group but really found my driver on the 5 tee box and that changed the round! Solid day getting to the green but I saved a ton of strokes on the putting surface today! 
 

for the past month or so my driver has been non existent, just not getting distance and spraying all over. Today, I hit fairways and went long on occasion! Love to see the progress!

Installed a new driver and 3 wood shaft today in my Pings. Of course the range was closed because of the rain last night, so didn’t feel entirely comfortable. Still hit 8 of 14 fairways. 26 Putts but missed some short putts I felt I should have made. Not comfortable with the LAB right now. 
 

After further thought on this, my biggest problem was that I played 5 other guys today, as a six-some, normally not allowed on Sunday but it was not busy. 3 of the guys simply played really well. I didn’t win any holes. I tied some, but I just didn’t get the putts to drop when I needed them.

Been awhile, since I posted! Mainly only getting 9 holes in lately because I bought a new home and having to balance selling and moving in . But it's starting to settle down now! Which means more 18 hole rounds and more posts coming!

Played Stony Creek Metropark Golf Course and was paired up with a couple of men, who also worked in the auto industry. They knew a friend of mine who used to work with me but recently retired, and one was a neighbor of another friend of mine from our car club. Overall a very enjoyable day, picture perfect weather, a little breezy, and it was great to make a couple new friends.

Course was in good shape, although the speed of the greens on the back 9 were much slower than usual, and quite a big difference from the green speed on the front 9.

 

Longest drive was "wind aided" and on a par 5 that I hit a 4 iron from 199 yards over the back of the green in 2. Made par on that hole, although I have never been over the back in 2 before.

I was very pleased with how I played this round. I hit my driver the best I have in 15 years. I hit 11 of 14 fairways. Plus, I was hitting it like I did ten years ago. I hope it lasts.

I had 33 putts and hit 33% GIR.

This is the first time this year that I played Pinewood and my score was up and down all round. I started with two birdies but I also had 7 double bogeys. I also had a weather stoppage due to lighting but was only for 20 minutes. The course is in good shape after all of the snow this year in Northern Arizona.

Hit a big milestone this weekend - first time breaking 80! Par 71, shorter course certainly helped to hit that number but felt like the first round I've had all the pieces of the game working and limited the mental mistakes off the tee box. This round was certainly an outlier but the game is trending as we hit the prime of golf season!

Shot of they day - near dunked albatross from about 195. Hopped up, hit the flag and thankfully only rolled a few yards off the green.

Congrats! I've been hunting a 79 since last year's 81 (my all-time low score), and the past two weeks I've shot 83/82...getting CLOSE

Breaking 80 is a huge milestone! Nice work!

Congratulation @dback!  It's always great hitting a milestone like that!

Back in the mid 1990's I was constantly flirting with breaking 80.  I can't tell you how many 80's, 81's and 82's I had.  In November, 1994 we had a mild start of the winter in Rochester, NY so buddy and I went out to play one of the few courses that were still open.  I had a great front and a solid back.  Standing at the 17th tee box, my "friend" said "if you get a bogey and par on the last two holes you'll break 80!"  I remember thinking "thanks for the kiss of death!"  All I could think about was Al Michael's call in Super Bowl XXV:  The BIll's Scott Norwood NEVER misses from this distance!  I proceeded to par the last two holes and shot 78.  I still have the ball labeled from that day with my other sub 80 round balls on my wall.

Why the story?  After achieving what I thought was almost unsurmountable score and demonstrating it was possible, I started breaking 80 several times a year (which continues today almost 30 years later).  In fact, the following week it was "warm" again and I shot 79 on a different course.  

So, prepare for the sub 80 rounds flood gate to open!
