Set a personal best of 5 birdies! Wind gusts made it a very difficult day and I only scored pars on 4 holes...ouch. But I had the putter going and the greens I was able to hit turned into birdies. Very psycho scorecard.

Played 2nd Nine this afternoon to match with my Nine from last week.  37/39 = 76.  Rolled in 2 natural birdies, one about 30 feet off the fringe, and the other a 25 foot with about 6 feet left to right break.  Of course I missed two birdie putts inside 15 feet to balance it out.

All in all, not a bad round.

Despite 31 putts, I felt like I putted really well today. I had 2 birdie putts of 20+ feet and no 3-putts. Everything else felt solid, but not spectacular. Long drive of 292 yards is closer to where I was earlier in the season, but still not there. The work continues...

Played this afternoon and was paired up with a father and son duo, both younger than I am, and we all played a combination of the white and blue tees as the course had a lot of water from the heavy rains, we experienced later during the week here.

Today was a picture perfect partly cloudy and temperatures in upper 70's with a steady breeze.

Had a 37 on the front 9, with a bogey on the first hole due to hitting my tee shot left into the trees. On the front 9 I hit 6 of 7 fairways, and 7 of 9 greens, with 16 putts total. Greens were on the slow side, and I never am comfortable trying to "bash" the ball to get it to the hole.

Had a 38 on the back 9, with back-to-back bogeys where I missed the green, and didn't get it close enough to one putt those holes. Again hit 5 of 7 fairways, and 7 of 9 greens with 18 putts.

My iron play was pretty much dialed in, as I had my fair share of approach shots close to the hole, but never could get any putt over 3 feet to drop.

Started strong but didn't have any luck, trees stopped a couple beautiful shots I probably shouldn't have tried to hit. +7 on the front with 5 pars, 2 bogeys, a double and a triple bogey. Missed every fairway on the back 9. Aside from a triple on #17 I scrambled well on the back 2 pars, 6 bogeys from some crazy spots off the fairway, in other fairways, etc.

I'm working on a swing change, and the struggle is real.  Another day with penalty strokes off the tee.  4 today to be exact.  And that is not to say it is my only issue.  My approach shots are leaving me in difficult positions on and around the green, and my putting is below average.  

BUT... I'm committed to improving, and I know I need to get through the rough patch of this swing change, to gain on the back end.  Hopefully it will click soon... I have just over a month to my Club Championship.  Though, If I can keep from Cold Topping my Sunday Opening Drive into the lake - like I did last year... I will consider it a successful tournament.  HAHA.   You have to find the humor in this game, otherwise it will completely destroy your self worth... it is designed for that.

Been out of commission for a while now due to injuries but finally felt good enough to play this weekend. Except for a few thinned shots and a small disaster on #3, I made it around ok. Also not sure why it had to be over 100* but at least the wind helped keep me cool.

 

The course was rough though. They aerated and sanded the green a week or two ago and with this heat, they cooked. Fairways were also pretty rough but often manageable.

 It's a shame when your longest drive isn't with your driver, but that is a glaring indicator of how this round went. It was all bad from the jump, which I should have known given how good the range session was before the round. But obviously not quitting the game, so here's hoping things get back on track for the next round. 

The Good: 

• new putter feeling better, 34 putts with a couple of lip outs and only 1 3-jack; feeling like distance control has improved
• Pounded the 3-wood off the tee

The Bad: 

• iron game was a mess 
• Driver was worse 
• just put myself in trouble spots most of the round and wasted 2-3 shots trying to scramble out
• mental game - lost my cool too many times

Terrible round, especially since I did pretty well just a few days before on the same course.  Had real trouble with contact most of the round, but got a few good hits in.   Need time at the chipping green and really dial in my short game.  Putting was ok, but I got rushed and frustrated and wound up not hitting a few solid strokes which led to 3 putts. 

Highlight was a sandy save par on #5.  Best part?  Made a 75' uphill putt that just dribbled in.

Rising to the top of the leaderboard has been a familiar position for this week's champion... with a score of gross 71 / Net 62 playing at Sulphur Springs Country Club...

@RoverRick posted a -10 Net score to lead the field by a stroke.  Stellar play from a member the tirelessly works on his game (check out his round comments - always a great overview of the ins/outs & ups/downs for each round he posts).  Congratulations Rick!

Also worth mentioning... In the #2 spot AND #3 spot @buckpillar had a great week with two great scores (-9 and -8 net) to finish just behind our leader.
