Golf was hard today. Suffering from golfers elbow and it affected my swing. However, did just enough to bring it in under par. Four birdies and three bogeys (two of which were mental errors around the green). Drove it well enough to stay in position. Hit just enough quality shots.

I believe today is likely to be what it may be like for the next 4-5 months.  My home course has started a major irrigation project.  The existing PVC irrigation infrastructure has become brittle with age and constantly springing leaks.  That yielded wasted water and difficult playing conditions.  They began with welding and distributing the new main poplyolefin-based water lines through the course mid-July.  Today, they started digging and burying them.  

Why is this significant?  They are currently watering the heck out of the course knowing that in a short time they may not have the capacity to do it.   The greens have been aerated at least once in July and in some cases twice.  They are keeping the greens on the "shaggy" side again knowing that soon the water will be turned off for a while.  

We have a wet course, with shaggy greens and obstacle pipes distributed all over the course.  In December, it will completed and the course will heal.  For the foreseeable future, I do not see ideal scoring conditions.

Today's round was typical in that I didn't score my best, I hit 79% of my fairways (but not very long) and had four up and downs.  Hidden in those four up and downs were THREE sandy pars!  That is the most I've had ever and collectively what I can expect over 2 or 3 months.  It would have been four but my par putt on 17 was short about two inches.  My typical Tuesday playing partners couldn't believe it.  To tell the truth, I find it hard to believe myself.  Let's hope it's a trend that I'm getting better out of the bunkers!

I love that I hit zero fairways on the front 9 and had a fantastic score for me. I really wasn’t happy about 3 putting for a double on the back 9 though. The weather was perfect the driver felt good even though I didn’t hit many fairways.

Beautiful county course in New Jersey

Even if it is a county course, the greens are always rolling well. About a 10 on the stimp rating. 

Narrow fairways and a lot of water hazards make this golf course really tough. 

The 2nd hole par 3 was playing at 271 yards today. 

 

I always had a hard time here, except this time -- I only took the driver out 5 of 18 holes. 

Mostly a wood tee off, even iron tee-off.  The course plays tough when windy because you don't feel the wind in the valley (at the tee box) but once the ball is up above the trees, it is affected a lot. 

 

First time shooting this low on this course. Putter was my best friend today.

Was a interesting round overall. Implemented some swing changes and a new driver which I'm still hum haa about. 

First 9 of 43 with 3 doubles and a wonderful birdie on the hardest hole on the course. I was 2 over on the Final 9 missing 2 very close birdies and on the final hole hit my best strike of the day.... Which proceeded to ride the winds over the green long and into the hazard, but made a up and down for bogey. 

The driver really came to life second 9 as well so there is promise for sure. 

I don't feel like it played a part but the first 6 holes it rained the hole time.

First HOLE IN ONE - 105 yards with a 23 degree hybrid.  Hit a line drive about a foot above a forced water carry.  Hit the bank of the pond.  Ball popped up onto the green and into the hole!!!

Conversation on the first tee which was number 10. Hey do you want to play? I said ok. He said what is your handicap and I said depends on the tees, believe I am a three here depending on the tees. He said there is only one set of tees the gold. I said I never seen too many play the gold. He said because they all suck. I said ok. He then says if you want to play lets play a match for 25 bucks a side. I said are you sure. He said are you scared? I said it’s a match straight up let’s go. I beat him on both sides. One I found him arrogant and two the guy called me out and I have never seen him here before. However, I finally had the perfect round! No bogeys or higher. All pars and five birdies. I was pumped and hit it great! Hit 16 greens and had 30 putts. What a great day and was happy to take his fifty bucks!!!

My wedge game decided to reappear with approach shots of 2’, 4’ and 5’ to the pin resulting in 3 birdies and 1 under for the back.

Social front 9 played 48 as a threesome with regular partner and a tag along who caught up to us on the 3rd tee.  Finished front 9 in 95 minutes.  I continued the back 9 alone and played quickly focused on my setup and course management turning in a 43 in 70 minutes, couldn't believe when rolling up to the vehicle with a 4:10 tee time I was all done before 7pm.
