Dez still writes for the Courant but rarely leaves the state. He did a great piece on George Springer's Dad recently.

Great win for the Huskies last night. They were actually playing 5 guards down the stretch. This is a fun time in college hoops with teams playing out of conference on neutral floors. Kind of the March appetizer!

I'll have my son-in-law get me the George Springer piece that Dez wrote.

I have been watching my Wildcats, and they are definitely a work in progress. Each game seems to focus on something different. I did not think they would hang with Kansas and was pleasantly surprised. I am sure they will be ready by March. Go Big Blue Nation! Go Kentucky!

I watch EVERY game. My confidence this year is down a little, not as much as the 2013 team. I do believe we have the potential to go far. It's always a process with this coach. They'll be ready come March. As always GO BIG BLUE!!!

Spartans get their first win vs Carolina/Roy Williams under Izzo. Defense was awesome! 20+ turnovers, though...

They looked really good!  But not surprising with Brides and Ward back as well as Goins, Aherns and Winston being a Sophomore now, they are pretty stacked.  I look for another Final  Four run from Izzo in March!

UNC, as always, has tons of talent.  They lack floor leadership, at least at this point in the season.  They have a negative assist-to-turnover ratio for the season (14.5 assists to 15.5 turnovers).  That should never happen for such a program as UNC.

I see that UVA is now ranked third in the nation.   Darn shame, I'm not a basketball fan, why can't we do the same in football, why oh why.  Perhaps, some day, I hear the students are a lot more sober now.   We've had some good Lacrosse teams, but then we can recruit from our neighbor Maryland.

I do check in to see how Marquette is doing because Wojo is the nephew of a good friend.   In my area, he is considered a local boy from Severna Park, which isn't too far from Annapolis.   The only negative was that he played for Duke and was an assistant to Coach K for a while.

In his book about Dean Smith, Coach K and Jim Valvano, John Feinstein has pretty much a whole chapter on   Wojciechowski and his recruitment.

That's me during college football season.   Hoops is a bit different, even though I cover all the Baltimore/DC area teams and try to remain neutral, you can't help have a favorite or two that you hope does well.  And nationally on a personal level I have allegiance to UNC, Dayton and Wright State.

I want my Big East back Rickp.

Here's one thing for certain - college football crowned a national champion while leaving a team out of its tournament that went undefeated and beat the team that won the regular season title of its champion.

That won't happen in college hoops. Anyone with a chance to win is in plus.

It's been an interesting season so far, with 10 really good teams that could win against one another on any given day. plus you add in some unknown teams that are really good that also matchup well with the big schools, and you end up with an really good tournament to watch. Should be a fun next couple months of college hoops.

I'm a Purdue fan, and I was engaged in an argument the other day.

My friend said just imagine how much better they'd be with Swanigan. I think they're better off without him because they don't have to depend on him so much. I loved the kid, don't get me wrong, but just believe they're better

Watching them from afar, it's tough for me to say if they are better not without Swanigan, I mean that's a pretty big statement to say regarding the Player of the Year.   That said, They are so wall balanced!!!   The Edwards Duo is tough, and I've always been a Hass fan.  One of the best shooting teams in the country that rebounds well, that's going to be a tough combo to beat come March.

it's going to be a crazy March for sure.  Not only in the NCAA Tournament, but I have a feeling the conference tournaments are going to be haywire this year, and that could create a lot of havoc with the selections and seeding.  Unfortunately it will also mean some potentially really good Mid Major teams will most likely be overlooked for an at large bid, if they get tripped up in their conference tournament.

Purdue is really good, I think the a big reason for their success is the presence of Haas on the inside. He is so big, that most teams have no one that can handle him. If the guards keep making 3's that can't double off of them, so the defense is in trouble at that point. Give a wide open 3, or an easy lay up. I think the list of teams that could win the tourney this season is bigger than years past. Realistically there are 15 teams maybe a few more, and that doesn't count the teams we don't know about yet from the smaller conferences. The FGC, and VCU's of the world. It's going to be exciting.

I have all but given up hope on my wildcats. They've struggled thus far, especially as of lately. But what a win tonight against a good team WV. Hopefully this is the turning point for the rest of the season. And maybe even a run in March. Go Big Blue!!

My boys, the MSU Spartans, have had some very close games as of late. Should help them have confidence later in the tournaments when the game is tight. Hoping they can put it to the Boilermakers this weekend!

My alma-mater App State isn't doing so hot in-conference. Hoping they'll make the Sun Belt tournament!

We're getting to the time of year where some bubble teams can really help or hurt themselves as far as getting in to the big dance. If you're on the bubble and beat a top ranked team it can really help, but lose to a 10-10 conference rival and your not doing yourself any favors.

A few more weeks then the fun really starts, conf. Championships, then the big show. The best weekend in college sports.

The At Large selections will be very interesting this year.   Right now it appears the B1G will have maybe 4 teams, as opposed to the usual 6 or 7, the A10 after several years as a 4 or even 5 team bid league.  So it there will be some opportunity for some top teams from other conferences to pick up an additional bid or two.
