Most Undesirable Shot Shape?

Ok, so I played a charity event today. And my season long push draw, you know that most desirable shot shape? Well it turned into a nasty push fade, and I could not shake it.

 

What's your excuse?

For me it's the high slice. A duck hook is usually low enough that you have a chance for it to hit a tree and bounce back into play. There's no doubt that the high slice is OB the second it leaves the club face.

Played in a customer scramble on Thursday. Hole one, straight as an arrow. Then the mandatory slicer took over. So I tried to close the face more, and guess which way I started hitting? I have no excuse, just bad driving day.

My big miss is the push fade.  I hate when it crops up.

My nightmare is the rope hook or duck hook which for me is a left lateral and trust me it is nasty. It does not crop up as often since I have gotten older and my swing shorter and my hands slower. Now every now and then it will crop up. Last time it cropped up was in the spring when I snapped hooked a hybrid in a charity scramble. What amazed me about that is my hybrids are set up (by me) to be anti hook anyhow. Just goes to show if it can be screwed up I can do it

For me it would be the opposite when my baby cut turns into a draw. It will screw with your head trust me

That I hate or that I struggle with?

 

I hate the shank, the top and the chunk - anything else can be played with.

 

I struggle with the duck hook or the block, same basic Miss.

For me it's the big pull hook. I usually hit it pretty straight with most my clubs. Little draw with the irons which can turn to a push, but that I can live with.

Driver normal has a bit of a fade which is consistent so no worry to change that.

Then there is my 3 wood which is my favourite and most consistent club. I can work it both ways and just feel super confident with it in my hands however it is the one club that I will get that big bad shot out of once or so a round. Normally it is a big big over draw or pull hook.

Still love the club though!

That happened to me last year in a tournament I played at the end of the summer. You just have to go with it. I just hit one extra club every shot and played that baby fade all day long. It was disorienting at first, but then once I realized I was much more accurate with the fade I wasn't complaining. Every time I feel my hook taking over I'll just play a week where I only play a fade and it calms everything down. But playing a fade does bring my one shot I want to eliminate into play: the dreaded double cross! It starts 20 yards left and hooks 30 more yards .

Any shape that's not working that day.  If I want to play a fade that day, & I'm hitting draws or hooks .... that sucks!  If I want to hit a draw but I'm hitting uncontrollable fades or slices ... that sucks!  So basically when the ball doesn't listen.

Agree!!  I an currently a 9-10 HCP; I could be a 6-8 HCP except for those shots I throw away on the course.  I never know when it will show up, but when it does, it's more than just a loss of one shot. Long par 5... excellent drive (for me); beautiful FW to 120 out; two-putt for a double bogey!!

Is the shank really a shot shape? Obviously it takes off right and screams. But do we even call that a shot? Or a total miscue?

I agree.. this is the worst.. When this shot creeps in it seems to breed from one club to another.. It might not pop up every shot (or it might) but it will pop up several times with multiple clubs..

It's always nice to get a putt out of the way early.  

 

I don't do it very often, but last weekend I had one that ran all the way up onto the green to 10 feet. Of course I couldn't roll it those last 10 feet!!
