This was a huge round and confidence booster day. I picked up the game, in September of 2022, with a goal to break 100 and 95 in less than a year. It feels great to set some new goals to work on. Break 90 up next.... Need to clean up the 3 putts, and get on the attack with my chipping around the green.

Beautiful day! Tee time 7:40 am. Earliest I’ve played for many years. Usually 9-10. Other than a 9 on the par 5 fourth, continuing to make decent contact mostly and putting consistent. Had two chip-in birdies-one from about 25 yards! Handicap is slowly going down!

Ahhh... Yeah, there's the score closer to normal

Honestly, I think I've turned a corner here - this felt almost like the WORST I could've played. Still tuning in the new shaft - hit some great drives (even one with - gasp - a DRAW), but *just* missed a bunch of fairways - shrug. 

Some highlights:

Hit a pure 7-iron 185+ on a par-3, and just missed the 40+ ft birdie putts. 

Hit a 60° from 55 yards that hit at the pin, took one hop and then spun back to 3 ft. 

Nearly holed a wedge (56) from the bunker for birdie - stopped two rolls short. 

All in all, for the first time playing a new course, I'm pretty thrilled with how this turned out. 

Also, this bag is straight up legit, and looks better on my cart than I even hoped.

Got out after working a little more than 1/2 day, and the weather was blue skies, sunshine, and about a 15-20 mph breeze.

Had to start on the back 9, as they had leagues scheduled for the front, and I would be able to be in the clear of them by the time I made the turn.

Was paired up with a couple other men, younger than myself, and SWMBO did come along to ride and see the sights.

Highlight of my round was a birdie on my first hole, number 10. A 365-yard par 4 where I hit driver, PW to 15 feet right of the flag and drained the putt.

Left a few other birdie putts on the edge or just by the hole without the ball taking the break I played for.

Had another consistent 40 - 40 for an 80 total, with 13 of 18 fairways, but only 9 of 18 greens.

Most shots that missed the green were too long, not by much but a lot of them were in-between club yardages for me, and I felt more comfortable taking the longer club and making what I thought would have been an easier swing.

Still, this is my 5th full round in Michigan before the end of June, which puts me way ahead of the limited time I was able to play last year.

This is the first day of the Shootout in the Pines tournament and my team is in fourth place in our flight. We had 9 points for the day. A good day of golf in the mountains of Arizona.

This was the first round in my member/guest and due to the format (quota system) I shot a higher number than I would say my play reflected since I was focused more on the tournament scoring system than shooting a low gross.
Highlighted by 2 birdies: one on a par 5, hit a 52° from 110 to 16 inches for birdie. Finished my round on my final hole with a hole out from 45 yards for birdie after pulling my PW left of the green into a tree. Super fun round!

Shot a PB round of 99 today and a PB 46 on the front! 5 pars and a birdie plus two bogeys lead to a really strong net birdies score for me on this round! Would have had an even better score if not for a 9 on a par 5 on the front and almost blowing getting in under 100 through the last 4 holes on the back 9. Saw some marked improvement today and hoping to keep it steady as the season progresses!

There are 3 key to scoring well for me. Driver, 58° wedge, and putter. 
 

I think of my longer clubs as taking the Hippocratic Oath of Golf. “First do no harm.” Unfortunately, twice I did harm off the tee today, but there was an hour delay because of a severe thunderstorm and lightning but leading up to that the wind was gusting and shifting and costs me a couple of strokes. I also made a couple of bad swings. 
 

I used the 58° wedge 9 times and got up and down every time. 
 

The LAB Putter may have solidified a spot in the bag today. I had a break through before the round, short version is to square the face to the back of the left hand before addressing the ball. 22 total putts today and at least 10 of those were dead center perfect putts. Everyone knew the instant it left the face it was going in. There were 2 more that also dove the last few inches and lipped out, and one that was obviously blown up the hill just before the storm. 
 

Overall, while it was far from a perfect day, if I can continue hitting those 3 climbs well, I can continue to drop the handicap. I’ve dropped from a 12 to a 9 in the last few weeks

Had some amazing shots during today's round. On just the second hole of the day I had yet another near hole-in-one (still looking for my first one). It was a short hole, hit my sand wedge past the pin and spun it back. It lipped out and ended up a few feet from the hole. A few holes later I hit a drive that seemed to have another gear, it caught a downslope and rolled out to 347. Had just a short iron into a par 5 and had my second birdie. New LAB putter was on fire today, feels like I've almost got my game back!

Dad and I played with a solo gentleman who had a solid game. Made it around in just about 4 hours we all stayed in play most of the day. I had 39 putts with 6x 3 putts but still broke 90, 46-43 for bogey golf. Dad shot 40 on the back 9 (he claims) to beat me by 2 strokes. 

8/14 fw hit is poor based on my average. 7/18 gir shows I struck my approaches well and had a bunch of opportunities. 4 of the 3 putts were on holes I had a gir.

I had a putting lesson this past Tuesday - that made a world of difference as I wasn't standing/leaning over the ball as much as I should - that led to sinking a long putt for a bird on a par 5. That combined with a great range session before I went out to play really helped. I think I finally figured out my driver - at least for today.

Combined 9 holes yesterday with 9 holes today.

Yesterday hit nearly every fw but bad turf interaction on approach shots, ended +6 net 5/6 fw 1/9 gir.

Today only hit 2/6 fw but 3/9 gir and every approach was within a reasonable proximity to the green. Found 3 bunkers and got out nicely all 3 times. Shot -2 net for a PB at this course.

Putted below average both days but both courses have challenging greens.

It's amazing how much you have to change your swing when you can't engage your lower body. I joined a new gym on Saturday and absolutely smoked my legs to the point that I was not going to play today. But my daughter wanted to ride along so I couldn't pass up that bonus quality time. 

Had to focus on good tempo and good ball striking, and was completely unable to overswing and that seemed to help. Shot my best round ever today, 77 and even banged one in for birdie from 60 yards out after a poor tee shot and after taking my medicine. 

Hot as hell out there but good pace on the course and a really rewarding score. Cheers folks!

I had the opportunity to go low today.  I struck the ball very well, but I made 3 crucial course management errors that turned possible pars into double bogies after going OB with too much club. I also made 2 bad swings hitting into hazards. The rest were pars and birdies. 
 

LAB Putter was also well behaved today. 25 putts overall.
