What equipment are you thinking about?

So- while I was at my fitters' yesterday getting my LM numbers for my new irons/shafts. I talked w him about FW vs new driver. After much discussion and a lot of swings w a Paradym 3W and Driver and my current UW (17*), the most "beneficial" choice would be the new driver. I gained 15-20ish yards w the driver and the dispersion was better than my current one. I'm pretty accurate w the UW (from the tee or off the deck) and between it and my current driver, I can usually either get the green or REALLY close (usually within 70 yards) on most of the par 5s I play. The only one that I regularly play that always takes 3 is a par 5 that usually plays 570-600. I'm thinking a new Paradym driver is definitely in my future.

When it comes to hybrids, was there massive improvements from TS to TSi to TSr? Or minimal like usual. I know the jump from TS to TSr looks big regarding the drivers but am unsure if that has trickled down into their hybrids as well.

Debating on what should be golf ball of choice.

Have a chance to try a few with some sales this week and have normally loved tp5 but may look towards DTC and what is better value for similar performance.

Callaway supersoft are getting the audition tomorrow, strictly based on finding 3 or 4 of them on a recent trip I walked and the 2 groups in front of me were cart path only. They tried donating a box to me, but I wasn't trying to walk 11 miles on the day

Without hitting them I would say not much difference in the TS2 to TSR2. But in the TS3 line they added movable weight. The TSI3 had 3 positions and the TSR3 has 5 positions. The can defiantly make a difference if you struggle over turning a hybrid which is common and you can wight the toe to help with this.

I guess it depends on what is considered “significant”.  I would say they have improved the weighting systems and made some design tweaks but are basically the same.   I personally think the biggest tech changes come in the drivers as they are distance centric.  When you get down to hybrids, you are looking more for distance control. I play 915 hybrids and at this point I don’t see a reason to upgrade; not sure what I would get except that the gap behind the face has been filled in and I wouldn’t have to use my divot tool to get the dirt out after every shot 😁

2 things come to mind.  For sticks I play mostly PING.  Since I picked up their G425 7 wood, it has been a game changer.  I am thinking to pick up their 9 wood (maybe the G430 version), if it is like the 7 wood it would fill the gap in the 150 yard range for me, where I know use the 6 iron but I am less confident and have too much inconsistency for length, but the 7 wood is pretty consistent (and the 9 wood would land and hold better than the 6 iron most likely).  Was also thinking about the 5 wood but not sure where it would fit in my gapping, needs to have a stronger case.  I probably will change my shaft on the driver, which I realized is longer than the shaft on my G400 Max which I am able to control much better, on my G425 the shaft is longer and seems slightly more flexible but I can't control the club nearly as well as the 400Max, hence likely to go back to the fitter to see if we need to swap out of it.

I just got the new Paradym driver and 5 wood and am considering trading in my Mizuno JPX 919 forged irons for the Paridym irons. Has anyone had the chance to demo these new irons? I am considering switching over to graphite shafts as well(currently using projectX steel shafts)but as we get older our swing speeds get slower…

There are some posts about the Paradym irons and the overwhelming feedback seems to be more distance.  Obviously, the is what GI type irons do by reducing spin and other variables associated with the club.

keep in mind, graphite isn’t just for slower swing speeds!  Graphite shafts come in a wide variety of profiles and weights and can work for even the fastest swinging players.

Having the shaft in your driver cut down an inch or even a little more is no big deal and a good excuse for a new grip, I have read that shortening the shaft slightly stiffens it as well but do not know this for a fact

You are correct. Making the shaft shorter makes the club shorter, the shaft stiffer, and it will adjust the swing weight.

Your club will have less flex when you remove weight. A regular flex can become stiff, and a stiff can become extra stiff when you shorter it, but that all depends on how much you shorten it. However, with a shorter shaft in theory you should have more control and find more fairways.

... You can counter most of the flex change by adding weight to the head. Shorter shaft and heavier head can add more mass so it can result in longer drives when combined with hitting the center more often.

I agree, my other driver was cut down I was just trying full length on the new 430 for a while, 1 inch is my starting point and the heavier grip should counter the shaft being cut IF IF IF I understand how that works, If not I will change the weight in the head to something heavier.

I agree, my other driver was cut down I was just trying full length on the new 430 for a while, 1 inch is my starting point and the heavier grip should counter the shaft being cut IF IF IF I understand how that works, If not I will change the weight in the head to something heavier.

... A heavier grip counter balances the shaft so swing weight will go down, not up and it will not effect the flex. There is a suggested swing weight of around D2 but of course that is just a starting point and some prefer heavier or lighter. The best way to shorten a shaft and dial in feel, especially if using a heavier grip is to take it to the range and start hitting balls. Even if it feels good with no alterations, start adding strips of lead tape and see if feel and performance improves. Keep adding strips til it feels too heavy or performance suffers and remove the last strip of lead tape and you should be dialed in.

... Sure. I am not familiar with Ping and don't know it they will sell heavier weights to consumers. But there are plenty of aftermarket weights sold on Ebay and Golfworks.

Has anyone tried the True Links OG Feel shoes? https://truelinkswear.com/products/true-og-feel

I have switched to wearing barefoot shoes all the time and now if wear traditional narrow toe box shoes it feels uncomfortable so looking for something like that with a little more stable sole for golfing. These seem to be the only options really but can find where I could try them on first so thought.

Debating on what should be golf ball of choice.

Have a chance to try a few with some sales this week and have normally loved tp5 but may look towards DTC and what is better value for similar performance.

You should probably be able to get Vice easily over there .. have not yet tried them myself, but others on here have and seen to be happy with them. You can order sampler packs to try a few different models, too.

I was thinking on buying a mixed set of PXG Gen5 - 5-7 iron XP / 8-PW P / G T. All with MMT 80 S shafts. I made a fitting session in Las Vegas last week but then saw a video in You Tube showing the Gen6 (they look wonderful!!!!)

Have to wait and see

PXG just put out the new Gen 6 clubs. I just purchased the 0311 Driver, 9 degree neutral setup. Cut to 45 1/4, in the project x hzrdus black Gen 4 60 stiff 6.0 shaft. Put the golf pride multi compound plus 4 grip on it. With the hero’s program and custom fit came to 459. Not a bad price for this driver. Can’t wait to get it in the bag!

Play like a champion today!

Keeping my eye open for the 7 wood now poular by the pros.  Looking for old Callaway 7 or 9 woods, but am leery since shaft tech has advanced so much since those were in vogue.  I did pick up a used Titleist TS2 5 wood a day ago to try.

#1  PXG 0211 10.5 deg, Evnflo Riptide CB 40 gram A flex.

3W: Callaway Steelhead Xr,  Tensei Blue CK 55 gram A flex.

5W : Titleist TSi 1,    Aldila Ascent 40 regular flex.

Driving Iron: Mizuno MP 18 MMC Fli-Hi 3i 18 degree, Recoil 95 reg flex.

4 iron:  GFF Mizuno Fly-Hi, 24 degree forged hollow body,  Aerotech Steelfiber 😍😃💥.

5 Hybrid: Mizuno (2017) JPX Fli-Hi wave tech, Recoil ESX 460 reg flex.

Irons: 6 - PW: Ping I 500, on Recoil Smacwrap ES 760, reg flex.

Wedges: 2 x Mizuno S5 52/09.  1@ 50 deg, 1@ 54 deg; New (July 2024) Mizu ES 21, 58 x 08, jet black.

Chipper: Don Martin "Up n In" brass/bronze. 🙂

Putter: Odyssey Stroke Lab "R" Ball, face balanced, with 2 piece Stroke Lab multi material shaft.🙃💘

Always looking for new stuff but I think This year I may switch from my Tensei Raw Blue 60G Stiff driver shaft to a Ventus Velocore Blue 70G Stiff shaft to try and pull my dispersion in slightly. One thing I've found is with the lighter drivers I tend to "lose track" of the head at the top of the swing causing me to either cast the club or drop my hands to far inside (heavy fade or draw). I was between the 2 (Tensei Blue 6S and Ventus Blue 6S) when fitted and feel like i settled for the Tensei due to the recommendations of the fitter

Still getting used to my Scotty Select Squareback 2 but have been interested in trying a Phantom 5.5 or Odyssey White Hot #7. Putter is a big strokes lost area for me so I'm always trying to figure something out in that department
