Familar with this curve?  The closer you get to 0 handicap (~), the harder it is to move that line to zero. Your margin for error just keeps getting smaller.  Isn't golf and math fun? 😆

You just had to add math, didn’t you!?!?!?!

Ok, I did it- but the cheaper version, as I have only one goal for this quest-

its the “Skilz” straight line putting mat. Before I get deeper into the quest of putting better, I must first be able to consistently hit a straight putt. The game will be to see how many straight putts I can make in a row. I think it’s about 9 feet long- I’ll start at 3 feet until I can make like 10 or 20 in a row, then scoot back to 5 feet, and so on-

you can’t get very far if you can’t sink a straight putt from 5 feet , although watching some of the pros today, it makes one wonder. And you can’t make any bendy putts, regardless of speed if you again, can’t hit your line without a push or pull- seems like 10-15 minutes a day or every other day shouldn’t be impossible

Really struggled driving the ball had a case of the hooks but fortunately my putting was mental! Shot under par on the back 9 for only second time. Had a lipped hole-in-one on 18 also which would have been the whipped cream, cherry on top and so much more haha. To put the lip out into context on the picture below the ball came from the left in this photo and hot the right side of the hole, absolute power lip i was gutted.20230615_105326.jpg.8a61f7f08931272671345d8e627ff744.jpg

I was worried about playing today due to some significant pain after getting a cortisone shot in my wrist yesterday.   Hurt on a few shots but wasn't too bad overall.    Two bogeys and a birdie for a 1 over league round.   Our team won 10-11 and has won 4 straight.   My play was pretty consistent and I hit the ball really well; hope it continues.

Very nice! How’s the putting? Have you settled on one you like?

I only ask because you seem to be a very steady player, and not someone who changes equipment often other than with that one club.

Putting isn’t bad but I still think it could be better.  Probably more me than the putters but I still think the putter could be better.  You are correct, other than the putter I don’t change my clubs that frequently.   I have been playing my old Taylormade putter for about a week and it seems to be doing pretty well.  I did cut it down before I put it back in the bag which I think might be helping.  It is also lighter than most of my putters which I also think is good since it doesn’t mask poor strikes like heavier putters seem to do.  The biggest thing is that distance control seems spot on.   I’ve been thinning the collection so there isn’t a lot to choose from 🤪

Sounds good!

I guess I’m fortunate in that the putter is the one club I truly have a “feel” for. I used a Yes! Tracy for years, then when I was selected to test the LAB DF 2.1 last year, I realized that even though that particular model wasn’t right for me, mallets are definitely more stable (I hate using the term forgiving with a putter although it is a thing I suppose).

Once I saw that, it was just about finding one that fit my natural stroke. I found it on my third try after a Double Wide and a #7, when I stumbled upon what was naturally the most expensive option, a Cameron 5.5.
One year in, so far so good, there hasn’t been a need to try anything else.

Fairway woods are another story however. I’m constantly searching for that magical 15* to give me 10+ yards more than my 16.5*

... When I had been playing about 3 years, I started out with a solid birdie on #1. Chipped in for a birdie on the par 5 2nd. Hit a great drive and an iron to 2 feet for another birdie on #3. Then hit an 8 iron off the tee to 1 foot on #4 and my hands were shaking so bad I almost missed the putt for 4 birdies in a row. Next hole was a par 5 and hands still shaking, I topped my drive into a little creek 20yds off the tee. Took my drop and hacked it around for a 9 and after being -4 through 4 I was even after 5. My hands weren't shaking anymore and the Golf Gods were able to go back to their nap.

I skipped playing real golf today due to a scheduling conflict, but instead did my swing speed training session. This was the first session I've ever done without actually playing my normal crack of dawn round with the boys. Heres a quick recap, as many of you might not get over to follow that testing program... Hit a few high points that are worth sharing...

'wow, what a session. Sweating like a fat heavyweight boxer after 2 rounds. Apparently doing a training session after a round is a little slower than not playing. Set many records with todays session, including a 105 mph driver post session, along with a 91 mph 7-iron. That thing carried 171... wowwww. Best part of that is that the previous swing was 89 mph, but had a 1.33 smash compared to the 1.30 smash of the 91 mph, which actually carried 172... **grin** that just shows why the smash factor is so important'

That is sort of like what happened to me at Royal Troon last July. I was even par through the first five holes, only to push my drive into the gorse on hole #6. By the time I walked off the 7th green, I was at +4 following a pair of double bogeys.  I finished with an 86, which included a 45 on the back nine, which was still pretty good for me on that difficult course, playing from the 6,300-yard tees.

I had one of the best ball striking rounds of my life last night. I hit 8 out of 9 greens and the one I missed just trickled off onto the fringe. Too bad I can't bottle that, 50% GIR is usually a good round for me.

Rainy day so I hit up the indoor simulator. +7 over 23 holes. Hit the ball really solid. Took 2 penalties along the way and still scored well. Played a course in Switzerland in honor of @GolfSpy_APH

Made hole #2 my b-word, followed by a tough stretch where I lost 5 strokes in 5 holes. Back 9 was fire and continued into a -1 score of 14 at "The Five" a par 15 I'll play often if I have 10 minutes left in the booth.

Well, the Kelowna Seniors is finished, I shot 71 today, 1 under par to finish plus 1 for the 2 days, managed to back door tied for 8th. The field was very strong so I feel good about that. Going to tee it up tomorrow, I think I may have found the secret to golf, just kidding, but I am slowing down my swing a bit so that seems to help my timing, good time to find it...

Got invited to play Prairie Highlands this morning, and had an awesome round (for me). Played from the whites, slope rating of 124 (compared to 122 earlier this week).

I am pretty sore this morning from too much driver at the driving range and playing Wednesday. Driver was not happening today, but ended up making due with my 5H. Fairways were tricky, narrow and lined with bunkers or water hazards so it paid to be accurate. My wedges felt electric today. From 100yd out I was placing it near the cup. Putting felt pretty good, spent about an hour warming up with putting drills. My speed was right, but I kept getting robbed with lip outs.

Shot 57 on the front, and 50 on the back for a total of 107. Best 9, and 18 for me so far.

Early tee time this morning; got to the course at 6:30 and wow!  my back is sore from sprinkler repair the past couple of days.  Thumb is better though.

Shot 42/38 for 80.  On the front nine I had bookend pars with 5 bogies in a row.  I was doing much better on the back nine until I felt like I HAD to go for it on #18... stoopid Double!!  I did have a sandy birdie on #14 though.

Driver was on and off, but I hit my irons better than I have all year... too good on a couple of holes.  On the par 3 #4 playing downhill with a back pin, I hit an easy 8i that usually puts me in the middle of the green... went off the back!  On the par 3 #8 hole with the pin in the front I hit my 6i instead of my 5i because there was a slight breeze behind... should have hit my 7i.  I was still on the green, but there is a drop off to a lower level in the back.  I had about 50 feet going up a slope and breaking to the left to the front pin.  Got it to 4 feet and made par.

We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”

2 man scramble US Open day. Conditions were extremely tough, pins cut in deliberately crazy positions and the wind was up. Solid 20mph with gusts double that.

Took some video of the 18th green from the 10th tee before we started.

The guy marking his ball putted just past the hole. It’ then rolled back past the hole, past him and then proceeded to roll 20 yards off the front of the green. We we scared before we started.

I played ok, some good, some bad. Highlight hole was playing the last hole in the dark. Needed to use our torches to find our ball on the fairway. Yardage in was a total guess. Put it into the front bunker then played it to a foot. A mate was videoing the scene and couldn’t see my ball that was 30 feet away.
Not happy that the morning field took 5 1/2 hours and caused us to both finish in the dark and get doused with rain on the last green

We’re playing a course called Timber Point, which is right by where the Connetquot River meets the Great South Bay and supposedly it has some beautiful coastal views.

Was actually nearby yesterday at Hecksher Park. Haven't played Timber Point but I know it can get pretty breezy there .. hopefully your round went well!

Just catching up on this thread.. if you're still on LI (week of 6-19?) and are up for another 9 or 18 the next few days lemme know...

My game continues to come and go seemingly randomly lately, though the last few rounds have been better than the previous couple of weeks. Finally able to get the ball in the air again after about a five round stretch of nothing but duck hooks.

It's been a humbling experience to say the least, and it's a good thing because I think my head is better off for it. Clocked a +3 75 this morning and managed to stay pretty level the entire time. Three birdies, no double bogies and should have been better but missed two putts inside of five feet that would have saved par. I also capped the round on 18 with a terrible three-putt bogey as well.

We had a beautiful weekend for golf. My wife managed to snap a pretty nice picture of me yesterday morning as the fog was lifting.

Well, so far, I’m on hole six of walking, nine, and I actually hit my first straight drive of the day. Everything has been going left. Some have been playable, some not. Which is really weird, because my biggest driver miss is always to the right.
