What is your favorite Ping iron of the 80's and 90's?

Which are the "Man, I loved those irons" in your experience?  I have a hankering to get a set of classic Pings and have them refinished but can't decide on the model.

In the for what it's worth catagory, it's been said that the ISI irons were the best designed and that was supposedly stated by Ping engineers - exactly when - no idea, but when I personally played them, they were much better than the Eye 2's.

Absolute filth. ISI green dot (2* up) nickels are in my top 10 HOF.

My first set of irons were Tommy Armour 845 Silver Scotts my mom bought for $35 at Goodwill when I was 11. That was followed by years of Ping irons.

2000 - i3 OSize
2005 - i5
2009 - TM R9 TP 
2010 - S58
2013 - S55
2021 - i210

Those ISI dam near hit themselves. As good an iron as I have ever played. I liked the TM R9 TP's for a short period of time. It took moving away from Ping to realize, Ping irons were what golf looked and felt like for me. It's doubtful I will ever move away from Ping irons again. I just saw Tyrrell Hatton playing new i230's this week. The i210's have been brilliant thus far. Excited to hit the i230's when the shop gets some demo's in.

I worked a semi-private golf course when I was in HS and when the i3's came out it seemed like EVERY member bought a set.

My first set of irons were some old ping i3s. Love the clubs mainly because they were my learning clubs!

I kind of have a soft spot for the ISI irons. I guess you could say they were the last of the Ping Eye design lineage before the i3 came out. There is just something that seems special about the old Ping Eye design language that seemed special. Whether you loved the Ping Eyes, Eye 2, Zings, Zing 2, or ISI, they all seem to carry that special design. I won't say they were better than the i/G series to follow but I still know a couple great ball strikers that are still using their old Ping Zing 2 sets. I imagine there can't be much for grooves left

A club design only its Mother could love .  For me, top spot goes to the PE2's (Be-Cu bonus points) which I played for over 30 years... and might still be playing had I not stumbled onto MGS and this forum.

What was the love with Ping Zing vs. PE2's?  When my Hogan's were stolen my last year of college, and before my wife and I left for WA for my fresh out of engineering school job, I opted to wait for replacement.  After we settled in and I joined one of our company leagues, off to get new clubs we went.  I honestly cannot even recall what other irons a I tried.  Back then it was static fit measurements, lie board, and smacking balls into the shop net. PE2's were "all the rage" and I think I just fell for the salesman's pitch.  They were great for me and, I played some of my best golf with them.  "They" btw are all cleaned up and in a storage box.  The "slap some new shafts on them" gives me pause about selling them... especially since I've recently acquired all the DIY club build bench goodies.

Trust me, I get it.  The nickel just swooned me…I was stalking the ISI’s with one of these for the longest time…
