Unfortunately, it's the same stroke I was using previously that was working quite well - the only thing that's changed is the sheer amount of spin. I'm not mad at it, I just have to get out and got those shots before the round to get a sense of what the greens are doing. Unfortunately, the practice greens were JUST punched and sanded and weren't available pre-round. Oh well. 😜

Beyond stepping on the joke, you are absolutely correct. Any new clubs have a period of adjustment and convincing yourself to overhit pins to account for spin is no easy feat. But I have faith you’ll get it dialed in 😁

Eh. Gave some away. Still broke 80 and it may drop the handicap

When my wife asked if I wanted to leave Maine and move to where she grew up, I couldn't say no to Pinehurst, NC. I honestly don't spend much money on golf equipment, but I'm constantly reading reviews in case I ever get ready to buy

I swing left handed and have been the State of Maine Left Hander's champion since 1997, the last year they held the tournament. I'm currently a 7.1 handicap. Trying to get lower, but my gut gets in the way.

I came back to earth today.

image.png.ab121cfa377be1fd099cbe00805132f4.png

Only 57% fairways hit, 11 % GIR and 3 up and downs.

Nothing much to feel good about, EXCEPT my playing partner (who hits the ball a ton but has the chipping yips) saying after I got up and down off the green for the sixth time after 12 holes "your short game makes me nauseous!"

We did ultimately win our match and get $5 from the other team!  That didn't even cover the beer I had!  At least I got that going for me.

🚨🚨PERSONAL BEST ALERT 🚨 🚨

Today was a day I won’t soon forget. First I need to give a HUGE shoutout to @Hobert  Although he didn’t realize it, in the mist of a stretch that was taking this round the wrong way, our discussion via sleeper about fantasy player values totally took my mind off the previous bad swings. Many thanks sir!

Now for the round. It was a chilly dewey morning but wanted to play anyways. I opened up hitting the first fairway and green to card a birdie on the 1st. This is huge for me as the course has no range for warmup. Followed that birdie with 2 pars.
Then the fireworks happened. I smashed driver over the trees of the dogleg right par 5 and found fairway about 210 out.  Grab the trusty Ping Rapture 2-iron(flex) and just missed the green to the right by 5’. A little bump and run and found the bottom of the cup for eagle.
Managed to birdie the 5th after a good drive and wedge to 7’.
Then comes the short par 4. Snuck a drive over the edge of the trees and ended with less than 3 foot for eagle.
For those keeping track yes that is -6 though 6!

Then the wheels began to fall off.  Par, Bogey, Double to end the fromt 9 at 33.

Started the back with another double. Then the discussion with Hobert started and I quit thinking about golf and just swung. Snagged 3 birdies in a round middle round and finished with 3 pars to come in at 35.

All in all that’s a 33/35 -4 68. Great score only hitting 10GIR(11 if ya count the chip in) and 7 FIR. The big savior was the chip in and only 26 putts.  5 birdies and 2 eagles.

As I stated last week, I missed most of last week with a bad back. This week, I’ve been working on swing changes that I hope will stop that from happening. I moved back a set of tees this morning since I’m basically healthy once again. I wasn’t pounding the driver far, but I did hit it very straight. 230 in the middle of the fairway is very playable. That’s more than I can say for the irons. Both distance and direction from them were not good. They are probably mad at me because I bought some new irons, and they are not here yet. Golf clubs as we all know can be very spiteful and once they know they are on their way to the trading blocks, they refuse to do what you want them to do.

However, the story of the day was not how poorly I struck the irons. The stats show I had just 26 putts. I putted very well, but the putter is not really the story either. The story was the 58° wedge. I pitched to within 5 feet 10 times today. I birdied all the par 5s and while I sank a 25’er on 14, the other 3 I had 3-4’ers for birdie. On holes 2,6, & 7, I had 4-5’ers to save bogey after hitting my irons into trouble. And several more holes I had little more than tap ins for pars. I even missed a 4’ slider on hole 8 that would have been a net birdie.

I do not think I have birdied all 4 par 5’s in the same round since 2015.

Yesterday, I shot a 92 and didn’t hit a single fairway and made darned few putts. While today I show to miss 2 fairways, one was a bad swing and the other was a missed fairway, but was only technically a missed fairway. It was exactly where I wanted to be to get an angle at the flag. The only problem was I chickened out and went for the center of the green when I got to the ball and saw 10’ short or right and 15’ long was in the water.

Started out shaky, with a couple hosel shanks but started to square away around #9. Course just punched their greens yesterday and they were not awesome to say the least. @LBee shot a personal best and @Itzpiiz got his index to single digits with a 79 today!!!!!! Had a few birdies, and few good bombs today, and a monster 334 3 wood. Average drive today was 317 over 11 drives. Things started to feel more normal than they have in a while.

Today was absolutely incredible. Had some really incredible holes that I played today and parts of my game that are finally getting ironed out. Notable mentions first and foremost:

  1. Swing adjustment from hitting too much off the toe.
  2. TSR 3 driver is an absolute rocket for me. BY FAR THE BEST DRIVER I HAVE EVER PLAYED (See my longest drive as an example ;)).
  3. Played with the Srixon Z (Zed) Star Diamond golf ball as I am currently testing it. Pulled out my inner Brooks for sure.
  4. Putter did fantastic.

I really noticed some wonderful changes thanks to the swing, but one thing that is universal that I can give as advice to everyone who reads this is to make sure you talk through your shots. I tried to do that as much as possible and on the shots I did, I had wonderful shots into the green or putts that I made.

The biggest notable thing was my eagle on hole 6 on the "Back Nine." I hit a fantastic drive 330 yards, 170 yards into the green, I pulled 9 iron and stuffed it to 10 feet pin high. Made the putt and got me the big bird. However, two holes later I triple bogey thanks to an OB and some horrible short game.

I could keep going but suffice it to say today was one of the best rounds I have played in a long time!! 😃

*P.S. - If anyone is wondering why I played the same 9 twice. We had a lot of rain over the past two days and the super said we could not play the traditional 18 so I played the 9-hole side of Snowflake Municipal.

Unreal round! The TSr3 is such a monster! I found the Z Star Diamond to perform really well off the tee and in more humid/wet conditions than the Pro V1. Awesome round man!

Happy with my 86, and that’s with two 3-putts on back to back holes. But I am still following up good drives with poor approach shots, or hitting good approach shots followed by bad putting. Frustrating and good all the same.

Lost my temper at the par 3 14th 🙄, after a nice start to the back 9 with some clutch shots and putts … and allowed that to fester onto the next tee box and doubled again.

Not a great round after all.  Was a bit stiff and couldn't get good rotation, which left me open and was plagued by push fades.  Putting blew up at the end and carded way more putts that I prefer.  Had a hard time getting speed down on these greens, they were playing fast and not breaking like they looked like they should.  Had way too many dropped balls, including one that got lost in the middle of a large empty space, no idea why I couldn't find it.

There was all kinds of scenery though.  Juvenile Bald Eagle camped out near a tee box, industrial fire, a flock of pelicans, PIR stock car races, and this joker who cut me off on the way to the course.

Got out early yesterday for a round with Jackson.  Played well although my swing wasn’t great, lots of 3/4 swings trying to keep it straight.

Brilliant weather, but the course is completely trashed. A lot of upset people around the course as it was completely rebuilt/redesigned and opened in March of this year. I got tired at the turn and apparently forgot how to hit a golf club, but finished somewhat strong.

Difficult round this morning, to say the least…

I played a difficult links course and was worried that my game off the tee would be problematic. Turns out it was a perfectly decent outing for my driver but WOW did it quickly become complicated with irons and wedges after!

Poor poor poor strikes followed one another. It was like my mind and body were out of sync. I chunked multiple tee shots on par 3s, topped some straight forward shots from the fairway, I hit every ditch/penalty area that I could and managed to log a shocking 4-putt on the par 8th after hitting my tee shot not too far away from the pin… The 4th putt was still long enough that I could have very well missed it😅.

My handicap index had steadily been reaching record lows in the last two months so I kind of expected a blowout round at some point. Hopefully, I’m good for another 15 rounds or at least until the end of the season without that sort of performance again.

Not the flashiest card but together a steady round for my 2nd best score of the season. If you’re in northwest Michigan, champion hill and pinecroft make for one of the best value golf days in the area.

Lots of positives, but a few silly errors kept this from being the round I check off some personal goals.

3 putted the 1st par 3 I came to to turn birdie into bogey. Got a double bogey via the sand trap on the 2nd par 3 I played.

Still managed a respectable score in spite of only making an 8' putt for par and no others outside 5'.

Finding a way to turn birdies into bogeys since 1992. #TeamChunks
