Good Evening!

Below are the initial flights for Season 3 of the MyGolfSpy Forum Virtual Champions Tour. The only requirement to be placed into a flight is to have a round posted in a minimum of 3 weeks. The season long points race begins in earnest this week (week 6). How the points will work this season is this: Each week your best round will be added to the flight and listed from lowest gross score to highest. points will awarded accordingly. For example if there are 10 members in a flight, the low score will take 10 points, the second lowest will take 9, and so on. The highest point total available is 10 points, so if a flight has more than 10 members, then places 1-9 will earn 10 to 2 points, everybody in 10th or lower will get 1 point. For flights that have fewer than 10 members, e.g. 7 members, then that week is worth a max of 7 points for the top finisher. The end of the season tournament will involve the top 4 finishers from each flight, so make sure you get those rounds posted and those points accumulated. If you are listed in the TBD, then you have posted at least a round, and will be placed into a flight once you have cleared the 3 round threshold.

A quick note regarding handicaps. These were derived based on the rounds that were submitted and were calculated using golfhandicapcalculator.com. They will most likely not match your GHIN or the course handicaps you have been using, which is fine because I pay absolutely no attention to those anyway. From the site:

How accurate is this tool?

Truth be told, there is more to calculating a golf handicap than one might think. The USGA has specific rules which determine exactly how a golfer is to calculate his or her USGA Handicap Index®.

This tool's calculations are simple. It uses the standard golf handicap formula to calculate your handicap score for up to five rounds of golf. It then averages these scores, which is your handicap.

@GolfSpy_BEN.  My dumb question relates to promotion/relegation.  Since points are awarded within the flight, if someone is promoted or relegated is there a point change of some type or do they just move and retain points?

My thought would be since no more than 10 points can be earned in any of the flights in a given week (some flights will obviously be less) the points would transfer with the player. But I reserve the right to tweak the system as we go, as this season has a bit of a learning curve to it.

As luck would have it, after a great last round I must take a back seat and let my flight mates take a lead.  Gotta travel on Thursday and won't likely get a round in in the next two weeks.  I look forward to a great comeback when I return from Vienna and start laying down some good rounds.  I feel a sea change coming in my overall game play.

The 10.3 isn't far off my true handicap now as it has been trending the wrong direction!

Thankfully with a ton of rounds coming up all should start trending back down. .

Ben, you did an absolutely superb job in organizing and pulling this together.  I love the flights and I am delighted to be the low man on the pole in flight one. It just means, I have to bring my A game every week and play better just to keep up.  Challenge gladly accepted.  I also look forward when you join flight one.
