2 DB on par 3s killed me, but I'm starting to cover the ball better.  I hit a terrific 9-iron 167 yards over a 140-yard pin: a bad result, but a good swing.  The short game is coming around, too.  68° cloudy with a 4-10 mph and gusts 20 mph.

This was a round of feast and famine. The feast was an eagle and six birdies. On the famine side, a lot of mistakes especially in the short game resulting in 7 bogeys.

Played great today. Started 3 straight bogeys before managing some great shots for par a few times, made the turn at +4. Made an 18' putt from off the fringe on #10 for par. Bad double on the par 3 #12. Finished par-bogey-bogey-birdie-birdie-par. 

This ties my PB on this course but the other time was offseason when all tees were forward. First time I've managed 66 on the par 60 from the white tees.

4/6 fw but 1 of them was driving for the green not fw, ended up 15y right pin high. 9/18 gir. 31 putts.

Unfortunately, today's round was an example of my "new normal."  I've gotten my new Ping G430 Max driver somewhat dialed in hitting 12 of 14 fairways.   We aerated last week and I actually putted on our practice green before teeing off.  Mistake!  The greens have healed faster than the practice facility and my first put was 12 ft. past (accounting for the three putt).  The balance of my putting day was not too bad.  I'm consistently around the hole, but not necessarily in it!

I decided to go back and play a round with my previous irons:  Ping G30.  The reviewed Callaway Paradym X irons spent the day in the car waiting to see if my questionable iron play was more of the archer or the arrow.  Today's demonstration would aim more at the archer!  With the exception of a nice iron shot to our par 3 fifth hole (birdie), the balance of the iron shots were forgettable!  The G30's went back in the car for the ride home and the Paradym X's stayed to be played again on Thursday.  Maybe the time out was all the Callaways needed!?  If it was only that easy!

Slice was in full effect, so driver didn't leave the bag. A lot of 3 woods off the tee which was spinning too but at least more controlled. Actually hit 50% of fairways, just left with a lot of long approach shots. Some really solid golf mixed in with some really bad golf. 90 is about as good as it's going to get for me when I shoot 2 triples and 3 doubles. That combined with 17 putts on the front and 23(!) on the back, made it a grind out there.

 

Awesome course, full on northern Michigan experience without have to head all the way up to do it. A lot of elevated tee shots and greens and unique fairways that force you to decide aggressive vs safe. I love a course that makes you think off the tee and there are multiple ways to play a hole. There were a couple holes with unnecessarily big carries that took some of that strategy away.

Started round on the back 9 and spent my time hitting second shot out of the trees on many of the holes.  Finally got the driver under control on the front 9 and enjoyed hitting from the fairway which led to more pars and 1 birdie.

I was going to play practice round today in preparation for a Match Play Championship round I had scheduled for tomorrow. It rained, it was sloppy, soaking wet, and the only thing that kept me from shooting 100 was that it mercifully rained me out after 14 holes.  I canceled the round tomorrow and my opponent was happy about that also. I may play tomorrow, but I don’t do very well in the mud.

A tale of 2 9s.

Front 9- 2/7 fw 2/9 gir and 3 putted both greens I hit. 7 bogeys, a par and a double. 19 putts.

Back 9- 6/7 fw 3/9 gir made a birdie putt from 20', 4 pars, 3 bogeys and a double. 13 putts.

Combined it's another PB score this week. I'm close to my goal of breaking 80, just need to clean up a few things.

Started off great and then turned into one heck of a wind. Amongst the holes into the winds gusting to 30 mph were handicap holes 1, 2 and 4. So pleased with a decent round in those conditions.

Today put the Teeless Driver through it's first workout paying attention to position relative to feet and height of tee and results off the tee (I know its name is Teeless) and how well it hits off the turf without a Tee (see?) and found it is easy to sky the ball dropping carry distance to 150 yards or so, also hit some exceedingly long drives in excess of what my FirstStrike Rattlesnake 460 has been doing.  More importantly it did not suffer a single pulled shot as happened too many times in the past few weeks beginning with the PGA HOPE Secretary's Cup and continuing through practice rounds and most of the Pinehurst Open last weekend.  No way I was posting those rounds as it was way too social for me and those drives 

What I found was a good one-two of Teeless Driver off the tee box followed by 19* Tommy Armour Hybrid second shot and whatever iron was correct for distance onto the green.  Next trick is to get consistent direction off the club face.  Putting was on again off again but 15 putts on the front 9 nothing higher than two-putts and 19 putts on the back 9 with a couple three-putts, total of 4 one-putts.  Rain started on hole 14 and continued as wind driven showers that helped clear out those who melt/dissolve in water leaving us real golfers to finish our rounds
